Job Description
CDM Smith is seeking a Senior User Interface User Experience Designer to join our Digital Engineering Solutions team. This individual will be part of the Development group within the Digital Engineering Solutions team, helping design and implementation of cloud-based solutions facilitating CI/CD pipeline, and ensuring that software development and operations teams work collaboratively. An ideal candidate will be a critical thinker, proactive, and a highly interested in the application of new technologies and methods. This individual must showcase exceptional abilities in implementing solutions for AEC initiatives that involve cutting-edge technologies. As a member of the Digital Engineering Solutions team, the Development group will be engaged in research and development and provide guidance and oversight to the AEC practices at CDM Smith, engaging in new product research, and the incubation of innovative ideas that arise from around the company. The ideal candidate should possess an extensive background in application development, that includes security, scaling, integration, and application migration, along with a commitment to continuous advancement and interest that drives measurable results.
Key Responsibilities
- Excellent problem-solving abilities empower designers to navigate challenges and provide impactful design solutions.
- Create a low-fidelity and high-fidelity wireframe for the projects.
- Collaborating with the Business Analysts, Project team members and developers to create high quality UIUX wireframes.
- Develop user personas, journey maps, and wireframes to guide the design process.
- Analyze user requirements and behavior to design user-friendly interfaces.
- Create graphical user interface components, such as menus, tabs, and widgets.
- Create UI mockups and prototypes that effectively demonstrate the functionality and appearance of websites.
- Perform usability testing and collect user feedback to enhance design.
- Stay informed about the latest industry developments and modifications to design applications.
- Analyze and create a roadmap for an existing application's upgrade to ensure they are in accordance with the most recent UIUX framework.
- Ensure that all design components, templates, and completed solutions are compatible with a range of browsers and screen settings.
- Work with developers to communicate prototypes using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
- Comply with the established guidelines for typography and graphic design.
- Create best practices for visual design involves color theory, typography, layout, and graphic design skills to create polished and cohesive interfaces.
- Involve in Code reviews for UI to ensure that the user interface of a software application meets design and usability standards.

- Strong analytical and reasoning skills with an ability to visualize processes and outcomes.
- Proficient in understanding user requirements through workshop sessions and come up with low and high-fidelity framework and appropriate prototypes.
- Proficient in responsive web designing using various techniques.
- Proficient in typography, involving typefaces, point size, line lengths etc.
- A passion for solving problems and providing workable solutions, flexible to learn new technology skills to meet the business needs.
- Illustrate design ideas using storyboards, process flows, and sitemaps.
- Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, along with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks, strong attention to detail.
- Proficient in modern interfaces, tools, coding languages and libraries, including AdobeXD, Figma, UXPin, HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, and Angular or React, etc.
- Ability to work with different work group other than development, including data technology, geospatial and design technology teams.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and cross-functional stakeholders simultaneously to drive outcomes within often tight deadlines or quick turnaround times.
- Ability to communicate, written and verbal, with technical and non-technical cross-functional teams.
- Ability to design applications including web, desktop, and citizen development frameworks using key principles of universal design and assistive technology.
- Ability to investigate new approaches for integration into the UX roadmap, including AI capabilities, etc.
- Proficient in design thinking to understand users, challenge assumptions, redefine problem and create innovative solution to prototype and test.
- Proficient in user experience providing meaningful and relevant experiences to users, including aspects of branding, design, usability and functions.
- Proficient in content alignment, aesthetic appeals, color theory and emotional impact, design evaluation.
- Extensive knowledge of information architecture including structuring organizing and presenting information the way easy for users to navigate.
- Possess positive attitude, well organized, flexible, critical thinker, self-motivated, multitasking.
- Understanding current best practices are highly desirable.
- Possesses excellent time-management skills, a thorough understanding of task assignment.
- Proficient in engaging in user interaction and design with simple and efficient manner.
- Working experience with Vector and Scalar Graphics.
- Working experience with source control, Git, and Azure DevOps is preferred.
- Experience in the engineering industry is preferred.
- Willing to enhance skills with cutting edge technology and tools to stay competitive in the industry.
Minimum Qualifications
6 years of relevant experience. Bachelor's degree. Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands. Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
