Job summary

Seaspan Corporation in Mumbai seeks a skilled Training & Development leader to drive company-wide training initiatives for fleet personnel and officers. You will collaborate with senior management to design, deliver and assess training programs, including induction, EMS, MARPOL, and safety topics.

Applicants should have at least three years in marine training with experience in dual-fuel engines, high voltage, and engineering systems.

Qualifications

  • Minimum three years’ experience in marine training/design.
  • Experience with dual-fuel vessels and engine systems is preferred.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and implement training initiatives per Global Training Head guidance.
  • Develop and deliver induction programs for fleet personnel and officers.
  • Coordinate with T&D Manager to plan and execute training on safety, EMS, MARPOL, and related topics.
  • Oversee curriculum design, training tools, and assessment methods.
  • Maintain records of courses and monitor training effectiveness.

Position Description

This position works closely with the Training & Development Manager & Other Senior Training Superintendent and plays a leadership role in creating and executing the company’s training initiatives with strategic direction from the Global Training Head.

Note: Training delivery may be at SCMIPL, other manning offices, Online or Onboard.

Job Responsibilities
  • Is familiar with the Health, Safety, Environmental Protection and Quality Policy (PL-005), and understands the responsibilities under the Environmental Management System (EMS). In keeping with this and other compliance policies, they understand their duty to report any environmental noncompliance and/or concern to their manager or members of the senior management team (including the highest level of management) either directly or through the open reporting system as per Management System guidelines.
  • Develops the company’s fleet personnel and overseas officers through review, design, delivery, and implementation of training /developmental methods and activities.
  • Plans, Develops, Overseas & Conducts Pre-joining Induction in the latest company 'Incidents', SMS, PSC, MARPOL, VECP, COSWP, Security, Engineering, etc. as per discussion with T&D Manager.
  • Engage in development of Alternate Fuels training.
  • Engage in the digitization process in development of new series of training content and products.
  • Delivers company specific training FMS/ Jibe, Navis.
  • Monitors Onboard Training OLP & manages COPES developments.
  • Plans with CDO to Assesses the Company’s Career Development Initiative (CDI) and subsequently facilitates oral examinations (as applicable) and provides recommendations to CDO for promotions.
  • Manages and controls the Engineering Courses course lesson plans, training material. Supervises the record keeping of courses as under Training Co-Ordinator.
  • Researches, oversees curriculum design, learning tools, and needs analysis/gap management, follow-up evaluations, and resulting curriculum improvements and deliverables.
  • Handle various engineering simulator-based training.
  • Monitors changes in statutory and regulatory training requirements to forecast training needs and ensure appropriate measures are implemented.
  • Provides regular status reports based on statistics, metrics, ROI, and project and development results·
  • Communicates expectations to direct reports, manages performance, and provides leadership and support to team members.
  • Performs other duties and tasks as required.
Requirements
  • Chief engineer with at least one years’ experience and preferably on Dual Fuel Vessel.
  • Minimum three years’ experience in the field of marine related training, including training in design and development.
  • Experience with MAN B&W ME Engine or WinGD Engine – Mandatory. Hands-on experience with High Voltage, Automation, and Dual Fuel systems.
  • Shipping experience
  • Train the trainer course or similar course
  • Thorough knowledge of good operating practices, MARPOL, SMS, ISPS, PMS
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Excellent presentation skills
Additional Desired Qualifications
  • ISM Internal Auditors Course.
  • Certified Lead Auditor for QMS ISO 9001:2000, EMS ISO 14001:2004, OHSAS 18001:1999
  • Risk Management, Incident Investigation, and Root Cause Analysis Course
