Function: Energy Trading / AI Domain Advisory
Type: Full-time
Industry: Information Technology & Services / Energy / Artificial Intelligence
About Company
The company is a research-first AI startup incubated at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc). It builds advanced AI for the planning and operations of critical networks.
Its core technology is a World Model that augments large language models to reason about network state and dependencies — even with limited or noisy data.
The company has just closed its seed round and is assembling a lean, high-ownership team.
Position Overview
This role sits at the intersection of energy markets and AI. The Senior Energy Trader will execute and analyse trades in Indian and/or US power markets while serving as the primary domain authority for research and engineering teams building AI agents for energy infrastructure. It is a rare opportunity to shape both market strategy and the design of next-generation AI decision models.
Role & Responsibilities
- Analyse day-ahead, real-time, ancillary services, and capacity market dynamics across Indian (IEX/CERC) and/or US (ISO-RTO/FERC) power markets to develop and refine trading strategies and market views.
- Execute trades in energy/power markets; monitor positions, risk exposure, and P&L within approved limits.
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory frameworks — CERC/IEX for India and/or FERC/ISO-RTO for US markets.
- Partner with research and engineering teams to translate market microstructure, price signals, and trading logic into agent design, reasoning benchmarks, and decision models for critical energy networks.
- Track regulatory changes, market structure evolution, and emerging trends; synthesise intelligence into actionable inputs for the product and AI roadmap.
- Define and validate market-facing KPIs — trading P&L, risk-adjusted returns, and market insight quality — that feed directly into product and agent improvement cycles.
Must Have Criteria
- 3+ years of hands-on trading experience in Indian (IEX/CERC) and/or US (ISO-RTO/FERC) power/energy markets.
- Demonstrated experience executing trades and managing positions, risk, and P&L at a power trading desk, utility, energy trading firm, or ISO/RTO.
- Deep working knowledge of power market structures — day-ahead, real-time, ancillary services, and capacity markets.
- Regulatory fluency in CERC/IEX frameworks (India) and/or FERC/ISO-RTO frameworks (US).
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills applied to market data, price signal interpretation, and trading system workflows.
- Demonstrated ability to translate market domain knowledge into structured inputs for technical teams (product, research, or engineering).
Nice to Have
- Master's degree or MBA in Finance, Economics, Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
- Prior experience collaborating with AI, quant, or data science teams on market modelling or decision systems.
- Familiarity with energy market data platforms, SCADA systems, or trading/risk management software.
- Exposure to algorithmic or systematic trading strategies in energy markets.
- Experience at an early-stage or research-driven organisation.
What We Offer
- Direct reporting line to founders — high visibility and influence over company direction from day one.
- Rare opportunity to embed deep market expertise into frontier AI systems for critical energy infrastructure.
- Seed-stage equity with meaningful upside, backed by a founding team with a track record of $100M+ raised.
- Research-first culture with IISc lineage — rigorous, experimental, and learning-oriented.
