Job description

We are looking for a senior technical leader to lead the Devices Team within the Computer Science function for medical and diagnostic device platforms.

The role requires strong technical depth in embedded systems, Android/Linux platforms, operating-system concepts, device-side applications, system architecture and hardware-application integration.

The person will own device-side Computer Science delivery from prototype development through verification, design transfer, production release and post-release support.

This is not a pure Android application developer role. The person is expected to act as a senior technical leader and second line of leadership for device platforms, embedded applications, factory-edge systems and cross-functional product-development execution.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the Devices Team within the Computer Science function.
  • Own embedded Android/Linux application development for medical/diagnostic devices.
  • Define and review architecture for device platforms, embedded applications, factory tools and connected workflows.
  • Guide development across Android, Linux, OS services, hardware interfaces and peripheral communication.
  • Work with Hardware, Firmware, R&D, NPI, D&D, QA, Manufacturing, Service, HQ and Support/Surveillance teams.
  • Drive Computer Science deliverables for prototype development, verification, validation, design transfer, production release and maintenance.
  • Support factory-side embedded applications such as testing jigs, production fixtures, calibration tools, QC automation and manufacturing test systems.
  • Coordinate with other CS streams including Platform, Data Engineering, AI/ML and Support/Surveillance.
  • Ensure device data, logs, telemetry, results and traceability information are aligned with platform, analytics and support workflows.
  • Guide embedded UI/UX for operator-facing devices and factory tools using Android native UI, Qt/QML, Flutter or equivalent frameworks.
  • Participate in root-cause analysis across application, OS, firmware, electronics, mechanics, consumables, assay workflow and user operation.
  • Mentor and technically guide the Devices Team.
Must-Have Experience
  • Strong experience in embedded systems development.
  • Hands-on experience with Android and/or embedded Android device platforms.
  • Good understanding of Linux, OS concepts, processes, memory, multithreading and system services.
  • Experience in hardware-application or firmware-application integration.
  • Strong architecture and system design capability.
  • Experience leading technical teams and managing delivery.
  • Experience with device communication interfaces such as USB, UART/Serial, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex system-level issues.
  • Experience with release management, version control, builds, testing and documentation.
Preferred Experience
  • Medical devices, diagnostic instruments, laboratory instruments or other regulated products.
  • Design transfer, productionisation and manufacturing support.
  • IEC 62304, ISO 13485, usability engineering expectations, cybersecurity or connected-device practices.
  • Factory test systems, jigs, fixtures, calibration tools or QC automation.
  • Qt/QML, Flutter, Android native UI or equivalent embedded UI frameworks.
  • AI/ML interface awareness, including image/data acquisition, preprocessing and edge/instrument inference workflows.
  • Support/surveillance workflows, field logs, alerts, remote diagnostics or service data pipelines.
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary teams involving biology, chemistry, microfluidics, mechanics, electronics, analog systems, firmware, QA and manufacturing.
Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate should be technically strong, hands-on when required, capable of leading a team, and comfortable working in multidisciplinary product-development environments.

The person should have a strong desire to learn the science and engineering behind the product, including biology, chemistry, microfluidics, mechanics, electronics, analog systems, firmware, usability and manufacturing processes.

Candidates from medical/diagnostic devices are preferred. Strong candidates from adjacent embedded domains such as instrumentation, industrial automation, robotics, automotive electronics, aerospace or connected hardware products may also be considered.
