The ideal candidate will have at least four years of relevant tax experience, preferably five or more, and hands-on Corptax experience. Strong analytical skills, sound tax judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to manage complex data and competing deadlines are essential. The role partners with Federal Tax, International Tax, Transfer Pricing, Tax Provision, Accounting, Treasury, and Tax Technology to deliver accurate calculations and well-supported workpapers, support acquisition integration and tax research, and improve processes through automation and practical AI applications.

Key Responsibilities
State and Local Tax Compliance
  • Prepare US state and local income, franchise, and applicable gross receipts tax returns and workpapers, including separate, combined, and consolidated filings.
  • Prepare quarterly estimates, annual extensions, payment vouchers, and supporting schedules; prepare amended returns for federal amendments, audit adjustments, and other tax position changes.
  • Prepare state apportionment and state modification workpapers and year-over-year variance analyses.
  • Coordinate with Federal Tax, International Tax, and Transfer Pricing to incorporate taxable income updates, book-to-tax adjustments, and intercompany eliminations.
  • Support the integration of newly acquired entities into SALT compliance processes.
Corptax Setup and Data Management
  • Maintain filing groups, entity information and properties, custom groups, and return folders.
  • Coordinate annual rollovers and align state mappings with federal changes.
  • Run queries and reports, validate imports, and investigate calculation, mapping, and return-posting issues.
  • Hands on experience with creating e-file packages and clearing e-file errors.
Tax Provision and Cash Tax Support
  • Prepare and update state tax liability, blended-rate, franchise tax accrual, and related provision schedules.
  • Support return-to-provision reconciliations and explain differences between estimates and filed returns.
  • Support cash tax forecasts incorporating estimated and return payments, refunds, and overpayment carryforwards.
  • Monitor legislative developments and communicate compliance, cash tax, and provision impacts.
Notices, Audits, and Credits
  • Research tax notices, reconcile discrepancies, prepare response support, and maintain notice trackers.
  • Support audits by gathering returns, workpapers, reconciliations, and tax position documentation.
  • Assist with credits and incentives, including benefit reconciliations, certification tracking, and adviser coordination.
  • Coordinate external adviser review deliverables and resolve outstanding issues.
Innovation and Process Automation
  • Simplify recurring SALT processes to reduce manual effort and improve accuracy and consistency.
  • Support automation of apportionment data preparation, state modifications, NOL schedules, return-to-provision reconciliations, and payment reporting.
  • Translate tax requirements into workflow specifications and validation criteria with Tax Technology.
  • Test new or replacement tax tools, financial-system reports, Corptax interfaces, and automated workflows.
  • Explore practical AI applications within the SALT function.
Required Qualifications and Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or a related discipline.
  • At least four years of relevant U.S. corporate tax experience, including substantial state and local income and franchise tax experience; five or more years preferred.
  • Hands-on Corptax experience in return preparation, data imports, workpaper reconciliation, reporting, and electronic filing.
  • Working knowledge of nexus, apportionment, combined reporting, state modifications, NOLs, and credits, plus federal corporate tax concepts affecting state taxable income.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including complex formulas, pivot tables, lookups, and large-dataset reconciliation.
  • Ability to research tax issues using Bloomberg Tax, CCH, or similar tools and communicate findings clearly.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with attention to accuracy and documentation.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines, own deliverables, and elevate issues promptly.
  • Clear written and verbal communication and effective collaboration across teams and with external advisers.
  • Interest in technology, process improvement, and tax automation.
Preferred Qualifications
  • CPA, master’s degree in Taxation or Accounting, or equivalent professional qualification.
  • Experience in a large-multinational company, public accounting firm, or both; familiarity with technology or SaaS businesses and complex corporate structures.
  • Familiarity with Workday financial reporting, Tableau, Alteryx, Power Query, or comparable data transformation and reporting tools.
  • Experience with tax provision support, return-to-provision reconciliations, state tax audits, or credits and incentives.
