Position Summary
The Actuarial Software Engineer II is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining actuarial calculation software within modern, scalable .NET-based systems. This role blends actuarial logic, strong software engineering practices, and an understanding of insurance products to build accurate, performant, and maintainable calculation engines and APIs used across sales and illustration platforms.
The engineer will work closely with actuarial, engineering, and product teams in India and the US to deliver high-quality, compliant insurance solutions.
Deliverables and Performance Measures
- Design, develop, and maintainactuarial calculation modulesusingC# and .NET.
- Translate actuarial specifications, rate tables, and Excel-based models into robust, testable software components.
- Build and enhanceAPIs and calculation servicesused by illustration and quoting platforms.
- Ensure actuarial calculations areaccurate, performant, auditable, and maintainable.
- Applyobject-oriented design principlesand industry best practices.
- Write unit tests and support automated testing to ensure calculation integrity.
- Debug, troubleshoot, and resolve calculation and system issues efficiently.
- Collaborate closely with actuarial, product, QA, and engineering teams.
- Produce and maintain clear technical and actuarial documentation.
- Provide accurate estimates and take ownership of assigned deliverables.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies and continuous improvement activities.
What Will Make You Successful
- 3+ years of professional software development experience.
- Strong proficiency inC# and the .NET ecosystem.
- Experience withASP.NET / .NET Core, Web APIs, and service-oriented architecture.
- Solid understanding ofobject-oriented design, SOLID principles, and design patterns.
- Experience withSQL databases(SQL Server preferred), including:
- Query optimization
- Data modeling
- Performance considerations
- Ability to interpret and validate Excel Spreadsheet/Formulas
- Strong spreadsheet(Excel) analysis , who understands complex formulas well and can work directly with Customer.
- Hands-on experience withExcelfor understanding and validating calculation logic.
- Familiarity withAgile/Scrum development.
- Experience usingGit / Azure DevOps, JIRA, or similar tools.
- Strong debugging, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Ability to bridge actuarial logic and software engineering.
- High ownership and accountability for assigned work.
- Strong attention to detail, especially around financial accuracy.
- Willingness to continuously learn insurance domain knowledge and modern engineering practices.
Preferred / Nice to Have
- Ability to interpret and validatefinancial and actuarial calculations.
- Experience building or supportinginsurance illustration or actuarial systems.
- Exposure toannuity, life insurance, or retirement products.
- Experience withEntity Framework or similar ORMs.
- Knowledge ofCI/CD pipelines.
- Familiarity with performance optimization techniques (caching, async processing).
- Basic understanding of application security and data protection best practices.
