About the role

We seek an outstanding, creative, and passionate Machine Learning engineer to join Roku’s Recommendation team. You will build and own the next generation of content recommendation and other algorithms/systems that deliver a fully personalized experience for our millions of users.

What you'll be doing

• Apply state‑of‑the‑art ML techniques (deep learning, bandits, transformers, LLMs, causal inference, optimization) to delight and engage users.
• Run online A/B tests and analyze outcomes against critical business KPIs.
• Collaborate with U.S. engineering and cross‑functional teams to translate business requirements into technical specifications.
• Ensure the ML ecosystem scales with developer velocity and future business shifts.
• Mentor and support new team members.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience applying ML to large‑scale, concrete problems.
• Strong CS fundamentals; ability to algorithmically solve problems.
• Deep understanding of Data Science and ML fundamentals – regression, classification, tree‑based models, neural networks, recurrent and sequence models.
• Familiarity with NLP approaches such as Word2Vec or BERT; ability to identify appropriate KPIs and objective functions.
• Good grasp of system architecture.
• Experience with big‑data technologies (streaming architecture, data pipelines).
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, or related field.
• Preferred: Build recommender systems professionally; experience in Java, Scala, or Python; working with Spark, EMR, S3, AirFlow; MS or PhD in CS or related fields; AI literacy and Gen‑AI curiosity.
