Job Description

We are looking for an enthusiastic Senior Software Engineer with strong Scala and Java expertise to work at the forefront of our cloud modernisation within our Credit & Verification Services.

This role reports to Director Engineering

This is a hybrid role requiring working from Hyderabad office 40% per month.

As a senior developer in a agile engineering team that delivers the product backlog of Ascend Cloud Foundation Platform.

You will work closely with other Software Engineers to both maintain existing systems and build our cloud-native microservices, data pipelines and APIs using Scala, Java and AWS serverless technologies.

Key Responsibilities

• Working as a senior software developer in an agile team to deliver high-quality software solutions within agreed timelines, ensuring alignment with business requirements and agile principles.
• Designing, building and maintaining APIs and microservices using Scala and Java, following clean, scalable and secure coding practices.
• Designing and implementing data processing and orchestration workflows using AWS Glue, Batch, Step Functions and Lambda.
• You will Develop AWS Lambda functions in Python as part of our serverless data processing solutions.
• Translating business requirements to clean, scalable code ensuring minimal defects.
• You will collaborate closely with cross-functional team members to design, develop, test, and release.
• Collaborate in development processes and practices, a culture of continuous integration, continuous delivery, and continuous improvement.
• Provide clear and concise documentation for code, processes, and system architecture to facilitate knowledge sharing and maintainability.
• Mentor and guide junior developers, providing technical expertise, code reviews.
• Ensure comprehensive test coverage by writing and reviewing unit, integration, and end-to-end tests, and automating testing processes where possible.
• Monitor and address code quality issues, leveraging static code analysis tools to identify and fix potential problems early.
• Drive the adoption of DevSecOps practices, ensuring security is integrated into early stages of the software development lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Qualified with a degree in B.Sc. in Computer Science, MCA in Computer Science, Bachelor of Technology in Engineering, or higher.
• 4 – 10 years of hands‑on experience in a developer role within software engineering.
• Proven experience in building secure, mission‑critical, high-volume transaction web‑based software systems in regulated environments such as finance and insurance industries.
• Passionate about analyzing and building robust systems.
• Proficient in translating business requirements into clean, scalable code adhering to design patterns and security best practices.
• Strong individual contributor and team player, capable of collaborating effectively within cross‑functional teams.
• Hands‑on expertise in Scala and Java (Spring), building high‑quality, scalable, secure APIs within microservices architectures.
• Strong hands‑on experience with AWS cloud components, including Glue, Batch, Step Functions and Lambda, for building serverless and data‑processing solutions.
• Expertise in writing quality unit test cases with knowledge of mocking frameworks (e.g. ScalaTest, JUnit, Mockito). Experience with Test‑Driven Development (TDD).
• Experience in writing integration test cases using Behaviour Driven Development (BDD).
• Building scalable, maintainable, and performant REST/SOAP/gRPC APIs with microservice or service‑oriented architecture.
• Experience in identifying, creating, maintaining and reusing frameworks / libraries whenever possible.
• Hands‑on experience deploying and managing applications on public cloud platforms, AWS.
• Strong understanding of clean code, clean architecture, SOLID principles, and design patterns.
• Experience with any of NOSQL or SQL Databases.
• Experience with containers, Docker, Kubernetes.
• Proficiency with any source control tool preferably git (Bitbucket, GitHub, or GitLab).
• Strong knowledge and experience of Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) practices.
• Experience having worked in an agile team using either Scrum or KANBAN.
• Experience on static code quality analysis tools & vulnerability management.

Desirable and Useful skills

• Working knowledge of using GEN AI tools for coding.
• Any certifications relevant to public cloud, AWS Certifications are preferred.
• Experience deploying and scaling services on Kubernetes, Amazon ECS or Amazon EKS.
• Experience working with Domain Driven Design, Event Driven Architecture.
• Experience with any of streaming, messaging, event bus technologies while build event driven architecture either Kafka, Event Bridge, Kinesis, Rabbit MQ, Active MQ or any other message bus.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform or AWS CloudFormation or Cloud Development Kit.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines using tools like GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or Jenkins.
