Secure Every Identity, from AI to Human
Identity is the key to unlocking the potential of AI. Okta secures AI by building the trusted, neutral infrastructure that enables organizations to safely embrace this new era. This work requires a relentless drive to solve complex challenges with real‑world stakes. We are looking for builders and owners who operate with speed and urgency and execute with excellence. This is an opportunity to do career-defining work. We're all in on this mission. If you are too, let's talk.
Role Overview
- Senior Software Engineer in Test who is eager to drive non‑functional load testing, identify critical optimization areas, and conduct in‑depth analysis to understand “what’s broken and why” and “how can we improve the simulation.”
- You’ll be at the forefront of research and development, uncovering efficiencies at a platform level and collaborating with engineering teams across the organization to implement solutions.
- This is not a typical QA or testing role, but a deep engineering role focused on performance load testing.
About the Team
- Performance Load Testing team operates on a hub‑spoke model with a core focus on deep understanding of load generation systems, test data generation, and node.js and golang applications.
- We partner with engineering teams from across all products and platforms at Auth0 to create more accurate simulated load generation and data generation tests.
- You’ll support specific teams with performance load coverage, load optimization and testing, ensuring systems maintain high performance and continuously evolve.
- You will partner with senior load testing engineers and mentor junior engineers, achieving a high level of team impact.
What We’re Looking For
- Programming Knowledge: Experience with a language such as Node.js, TypeScript, JavaScript, or Golang is required. We need someone with a tester’s mindset who can understand code, databases, and data structures and collaborate effectively with engineering teams.
- Experience with databases such as MongoDB or SQL, understanding tradeoffs between persistence and performance, and applying optimizations. Familiarity with indexes, query planners, and complex join queries is a plus.
- Microservices & Kubernetes Exposure: High‑level understanding of Kubernetes (K8s) and microservices architecture.
- Public Cloud Experience: Familiarity with AWS and Azure.
- A “Developer” Mindset: Passion for digging into code, understanding system behavior, and proactively identifying optimization opportunities.
- Observability Tooling: Experience with datadog, New Relic, OpenTracing, OpenTelemetry or similar request‑tracing tooling.
- Load Testing Tools: Experience with Jmeter, Apache Bench, Artillery, etc.
- Linux and Containers: Proven use of Linux and containers in production.
- Deep Testing Experience: 5+ years with advanced load generation and analysis systems and tools.
- Agentic AI Tools: Experience with tools like Claude, Gemini, Copilot, implementing agents, skills, workflows in CI/CD pipelines, Git hooks, and review processes.
Why Join Us?
- High Scale, High Impact: Work on a global identity platform with millions of users, directly impacting the entire engineering organization.
- Solve Complex Problems: Tackle challenging performance and resilience issues in a distributed, high‑throughput environment.
- Exceptional Growth Opportunities:
- Access to conferences and ongoing learning.
- Mentorship from staff and senior team members.
- Exposure to low‑level problems, infrastructure knowledge, microservices, and Kubernetes scheduling optimization.
- Opportunities to deep‑en areas that genuinely interest you.
