Job summary

Kyndryl is seeking a software engineer to design, build, and maintain high-volume business logic that runs on the mainframe. You will refactor legacy code to enable modern cloud and mobile applications to interact with core data, while preserving performance and reliability.

You will work with Java, Python, JavaScript/TypeScript in a microservices, Docker/Kubernetes environment, contributing to a modern architecture and DevOps practices.

Qualifications

• Experience working as a software engineer on complex software projects.
• Excellent coding skills in Java, Python, JavaScript/TypeScript with debugging.
• Experience with scalable and robust software architectures.
• Knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases, data mapping, XML/JSON, REST services.
• Understanding of Microservices, Containers (Docker & Kubernetes), messaging queues.
• Strong OOP and design pattern knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Maintain high-performance mainframe-related systems and modernize legacy code.
• Debug, test, and analyze complex system interactions to keep mission-critical apps running.
• Extract business logic from legacy systems for cloud-enabled migration or integration with cloud services.

Bring your specialist knowledge and experience to a company managing 50% of the world’s MIPS and play a critical role in our modernization mission. You'll be in good company among our global community of experts leading the future of mainframe modernization. Experts who share knowledge openly and collaborate freely.

In this role, you'll design, build and maintain the high-volume business logic that runs on the mainframe. At the same time you'll play a key role in refactoring legacy code to enable modern cloud and mobile applications to seamlessly interact with the mainframe’s core data.

Maintain Performance

• Prevent decay and find efficiencies: Monitor the architecture and identify opportunities to optimize code to maintain and enhance mainframe performance.

Debug and Test

• Find and fix: Debug, troubleshoot, and analyze complex system interactions to keep mission-critical applications running.

Develop for the Future

• Bridge the gap: As an instrumental player in modernization, you'll extract business logic from legacy systems for migration or integration with cloud-based services.

Who You Are

Required skills and experience

• Experience working as a software engineer on complex software projects.
• Excellent coding skills and solid development experience (Java, Python, .React, Node .js, Javascript , Type Script etc.) with debugging and problem-solving skills.
• Software development methodologies, with demonstrated experience developing scalable and robust software.
• Experienced in relational and NoSQL databases, data mapping, XML/JSON, REST-based web services.
• Knowledge of architecture design - Microservices architecture, containers (Docker & k8s), messaging queues.
• Deep understanding of OOP and design patterns.

Preferred skills and experience

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Certification in one or more of the hyperscalers (Azure, AWS, and Google GCP) - otherwise, you can obtain certifications with Kyndryl.
• Experience with DevOps tools and modern engineering practices.
