Job summary

Merck Group in India is seeking a Software Engineer (Data & AI) to design and deliver scalable data and AI solutions that power enterprise analytics across functions such as HR, procurement and legal.

You will work with Palantir Foundry, Snowflake and PySpark in a distributed team, applying modern engineering practices, data governance and secure data platforms across the full data lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Experience in software design, development and delivery in enterprise environments.
• Proficiency in Python and Spark; familiarity with data engineering concepts.

Your Role

Data and AI are fundamentally reshaping how global organizations operate — and this role places you at the centre of that transformation. As a Software Engineer within the Enabling Functions Data Office, you will design and deliver high-impact data and AI solutions that power smarter, more efficient ways of working across the organization. Operating within a Product-Oriented Delivery model, you will be part of a collaborative, internationally distributed team of engineers and architects, bringing Analytics, AI, and data products to life at enterprise scale. In this role, you will design, build, and maintain scalable applications, data pipelines, and platform components that translate complex business requirements from functions such as HR, procurement, and legal into future-ready technical solutions. You will develop robust applications and interfaces that replace manual processes with seamless, intuitive user experiences, and take full ownership of data platforms ensuring cost efficiency, governance, security, and compliance across the full data lifecycle. Partnering closely with stakeholders across your delivery pod, you will shape the technical direction of solutions and contribute to defining the future of data engineering within Enabling Functions, leveraging platforms such as Snowflake, AWS, and Palantir Foundry. You will also contribute to a growing Spain-based hub within a global team, working on high-visibility AI use cases spanning automation, carbon footprint analytics, procurement intelligence, and more.

Who You Are

• You bring substantial professional experience in software engineering, including application design, development, and delivery in enterprise environments, with a strong foundation in writing clean, maintainable, and secure code.
• You are proficient in Python and Spark, and you apply modern engineering practices including version control, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing as a matter of course.
• You have hands‑on experience with data platform technologies such as Palantir Foundry, Snowflake, and PySpark, and you are confident designing and delivering end-to-end data pipelines.
• You have a solid understanding of data pipeline architecture, data governance, data lineage, privacy and security controls, and compliance standards in enterprise-scale environments.
• You communicate complex technical concepts clearly and confidently to non‑technical stakeholders, and you are comfortable translating business requirements into actionable technical solutions.
• You demonstrate AI literacy - an understanding of how AI works, its practical applications and decision‑making implications, and the ethical considerations around bias, fairness, privacy, and governance — enabling you to critically assess AI tools and make informed, responsible decisions in your role.
• Familiarity with AI workflows, MLOps, AI safety and guardrails, or CI/CD for AI components is a plus.
• You hold a university degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant technical or engineering discipline, communicate fluently in English, and are comfortable working in a distributed international team with occasional travel within Europe.
