Job summary

Wego.com is seeking a senior backend engineer to own end-to-end airline and GDS integrations, partnering with airlines and GDS providers to ensure robust, scalable systems. You will design and verify agentic workflows that allow AI agents to autonomously build, test, and iterate on code, with a focus on testability and reliability.

Qualifications

• 5+ years as a senior backend engineer (Java or JVM-based).
• Deep daily use of AI coding agents; experience in context engineering and verification loops.
• Experience with complex API integrations and legacy data formats (JSON, XML, SOAP).
• Strong understanding of distributed systems, data consistency and relational databases.
• Proficiency with CI/CD, automated testing, Linux/Git, and container tech (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Excellent written and spoken English for coordination with partners and teams.

Overview

You’ll join the Flights Supply team, the core unit responsible for Wego’s airline and GDS partner integrations. This is a senior, team‑scoped role. You will own complex integration lifecycles from end‑to‑end, partnering with airlines and GDS providers to ensure our systems remain robust, performant, and reliable. We work AI‑first. Agentic coding tools are the default way we build. At this level, you are no longer reading AI output to learn from it, you are verifying that the system behaves correctly. A human is always accountable for what ships, and you match an agent’s autonomy to the stakes of the change. You will operate with high agency, delivering whole products rather than isolated features, and resolve blockers without waiting for direction.

Key Responsibilities

• Integration Ownership: Manage end‑to‑end airline and GDS partner integrations, spanning coordination, development, production deployment, and monitoring.
• Agentic Architecture: Build and maintain agentic workflows (hooks, AGENTS.md, skill definitions) that let AI agents autonomously build, test, and iterate on your codebase.
• Systems Design: Make sound design decisions that impact shared code. Create systems with clear module boundaries and strong testability, making them easy for humans and agents alike to build and verify.
• Verification & Observability: Maintain a “behavior verification” culture over code-reading. Ensure code meets specs through TDD, CI/CD pipelines, and deep production observability (Datadog).
• Mentorship: Evangelize AI‑assisted development workflows across the team. Contribute to our shared Agentic Playground and improve team communication through clear RFCs and design docs.

Required Qualifications

• Backend Expertise: 5+ years of experience as a senior backend engineer (Java or JVM‑based languages preferred).
• AI Fluency: Deep, daily use of AI coding agents. You are experienced in context engineering, building verification loops, and performing critical reviews of agent‑generated code.
• Systems Integration: Solid experience with complex API integrations and legacy data formats (JSON, XML, SOAP).
• Systems Fundamentals: Strong understanding of distributed systems, data consistency, failure modes, and relational databases.
• Cloud & Tooling: Proficiency with CI/CD practices, automated testing, Linux/Git, and container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Communication: Excellent written and spoken English for coordinating directly with external partners and internal product teams.
• Domain (preferred): GDS/NDC integration experience (Sabre, Travelport, Amadeus, or direct NDC), or a travel‑tech, OTA, or airline background including ancillaries, EMD, and exchange/refund flows.
• Frontend (preferred): This is a backend‑focused role, but familiarity with our frontend stack (React/Next.js) is a plus.
