Job summary

Commonwealth Bank, known as CommBank, is seeking a Senior Software Engineer in Bangalore (Manyata Tech Park) to design, develop and operate secure software solutions supporting critical business outcomes.

You will work with engineers, architects and product stakeholders to deliver scalable, reliable software while promoting DevOps, automated testing and modern SDLC practices. Strong security-focused design is essential.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will design, develop and operate high-quality software solutions that support critical business and customer outcomes. You will contribute to scalable, reliable and secure products and services while promoting modern software engineering, automated testing, DevOps and continuous delivery practices. You will work closely with engineers, architects and product stakeholders to solve technical challenges and continuously improve software quality, delivery and operational performance. The role will contribute to security-focused products and services that support data protection, tokenisation and the secure handling of sensitive information.

Roles & Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, test and maintain high-quality software solutions, services and reusable components.
• Build scalable, reliable and maintainable applications using modern software engineering practices.
• Apply computer science fundamentals, algorithms and design patterns to solve technical problems.
• Contribute to software design and architecture decisions, ensuring solutions meet functional and non-functional requirements.
• Develop and maintain automated CI/CD pipelines that enable secure, reliable and efficient software delivery.
• Implement comprehensive automated testing across unit, integration, functional and system levels.
• Drive software quality through code reviews, test automation, engineering standards and continuous improvement practices.
• Build observability, monitoring, logging and alerting capabilities into software solutions to support reliable production operations.
• Investigate software defects and production issues, perform root cause analysis and implement preventive improvements.
• Embed security-by-design principles and appropriate security controls throughout the software development lifecycle.
• Contribute to the development of security-focused capabilities supporting data protection, tokenisation, encryption and secure handling of sensitive information.
• Apply risk management practices when designing, delivering and operating software solutions.
• Use AI-assisted engineering tools responsibly to improve development productivity, testing, documentation and software quality.
• Evaluate relevant technologies and contribute to improvements in engineering practices and product capabilities.
• Collaborate with engineering, architecture, security and product teams to deliver strategic outcomes.
• Communicate technical designs, decisions, risks and outcomes clearly to stakeholders.
• Participate in on-call support for production services where required.

Essential Skills:

• Strong software engineering experience designing, developing, testing and supporting applications or distributed systems.
• Strong proficiency in one or more modern programming languages such as Java, Python, Go, JavaScript, C# or equivalent.
• Experience building scalable, resilient and maintainable software that operates effectively in production environments.
• Sound understanding of computer science fundamentals, algorithms, data structures and software engineering principles.
• Experience contributing to software architecture and translating designs into effective technical solutions.
• Advanced experience with DevOps, CI/CD and automated software delivery practices.
• Advanced experience developing automated tests, test frameworks and quality controls across the software development lifecycle.
• Experience applying unit testing, integration testing, functional testing and test-driven development practices.
• Experience implementing monitoring, logging, observability and alerting for production services.
• Experience diagnosing software defects and production issues, conducting root cause analysis and implementing sustainable fixes.
• Strong understanding of secure software development, security-by-design principles and technology risk management.
• Experience integrating security controls into applications and software delivery pipelines.
• Exposure to data protection, tokenisation, cryptography or related security domains is desirable.
• Experience working with cloud-native technologies and modern software platforms.
• Sound understanding of AI and data concepts, with exposure to AI-assisted development and engineering automation.
• Strong problem-solving, communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence technical outcomes across teams.

Education:

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology
