Job summary

Zscaler is seeking a Senior Software Development Engineer to join the Zero Trust Exchange team. You will design, develop, and maintain desktop applications and background services for MacOS, ensuring secure communication with cloud infrastructure.

Collaborate with product managers, QA, and cloud service engineers to deliver new features, write clean, tested code, and help resolve production issues quickly in a fast-paced, inclusive environment.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of professional software development experience.
• 2+ years building MacOS desktop apps or background services.
• Proficiency in Rust or willingness to learn.
• Knowledge of OS-level APIs, IPC, and system programming.

Responsibilities

• Designing, developing, and maintaining desktop applications/background services for MacOS, ensuring efficient and secure communication with cloud infrastructure
• Implementing and enhance OS-specific integrations and system-level features under guidance from technical leads and architects
• Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams — including product managers, QA, and cloud service engineers — to define and deliver new desktop application features
• Writing clean, maintainable, and well-tested code, contributing to high software quality and operational reliability
• Investigating, troubleshoot, and resolve production issues quickly, following a “fail fast, fix faster” mindset and focusing on proactive quality measures

We are looking for a Senior Software Development Engineer to our Zero Trust Exchange team. Reporting to the Sr Manager of Software Engineering, you'll be responsible for:

• Designing, developing, and maintaining desktop applications/background services for MacOS, ensuring efficient and secure communication with cloud infrastructure
• Implementing and enhance OS‑specific integrations and system‑level features under guidance from technical leads and architects
• Collaborating closely with cross‑functional teams — including product managers, QA, and cloud service engineers — to define and deliver new desktop application features
• Writing clean, maintainable, and well‑tested code, contributing to high software quality and operational reliability
• Investigating, troubleshoot, and resolve production issues quickly, following a “fail fast, fix faster” mindset and focusing on proactive quality measures

Minimum Qualifications

• 4+ years of professional software development experience, with at least 2+ years of hands‑on experience building desktop applications or background services for Mac OS
• Proficiency in Rust or a strong willingness to learn and work primarily in Rust for system‑level development
• Solid understanding of OS‑level APIs, inter‑process communication (IPC), and system programming concepts
• Experience with HTTP, REST, gRPC, or other client‑server communication protocols
• Knowledge of secure communication practices, including authentication, encryption, and certificate management

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with additional programming languages such as Swift, Objective C, JavaScript, Go, or C++
• Experience with CI/CD tools like Jenkins, GitHub Actions for automated builds and testing
• Strong debugging and problem‑solving skills in distributed or system‑level environments
