Zillow Group Inc. is forming an India Delivery Engineering site. We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design, build, and operate the software delivery systems used by Zillow engineers every day.

Qualifications

• 6+ years building and operating production software systems, focused on backend, platform, infrastructure, CI/CD, or developer‑productivity engineering.
• Strong proficiency in Python, Java, Go, or similar, with solid software design fundamentals and test discipline.
• Hands‑on experience with CI/CD systems and optimizing compute infrastructure for build/test/deploy workloads.
• Experience operating services in AWS or another cloud using containers, Kubernetes, CI/CD, and infrastructure as code such as Terraform.
• Comfort with Linux and/or macOS server administration and either Android or iOS build ecosystems, or a strong willingness to ramp quickly.
• Strong SDLC, architecture, automation, and operations mindset; familiarity with SaltStack, Ansible, Puppet, or comparable automation tooling is helpful.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate CI/CD execution, build, and runner infrastructure across Linux, macOS, iOS, Android, and cloud environments.
• Improve developer productivity by reducing CI feedback time, queue delays, flaky infrastructure failures, and manual operational toil.
• Develop and maintain infrastructure as code using Terraform, and operate cloud infrastructure on AWS and Kubernetes.
• Lead technical design for new platform capabilities, making clear tradeoffs between reliability, scalability, security, and speed.
• Raise the bar on operability with observability, alerting, SLOs, incident response, runbooks, and post‑incident follow‑through.
• Partner with mobile, platform, security, compliance, and service teams on platform integration and migration needs.
• Apply AI to engineering workflows such as failure analysis, anomaly detection, agentic migration, code review, and rollout guidance.
• Mentor and uplevel other engineers, and help set standards for the growing team.

About the team

The Developer Experience (DevEx) Delivery Engineering team builds and operates Zillow's software delivery platform. This is the paved road from commit to production that every Zillow Group engineer relies on to build, test, deploy, and ship. The platform supports org-wide delivery infrastructure at meaningful scale: CI/CD, runners, GitLab, Artifactory, Progressive Delivery, mobile build and release, and legacy migration programs. We are shifting from hands‑on infrastructure operations toward secure, compliant, AI‑first paved paths that improve reliability, release safety, and developer productivity. We are standing up a new India-based team to expand capacity, enable follow‑the‑sun coverage, and take first‑class ownership of high‑impact platform initiatives. As one of the founding members, you'll help shape a brand‑new engineering site while working on infrastructure that multiplies the productivity of the entire engineering organization.

What the team works on

• GitLab (including GitLab Dedicated and Duo): operate the central source‑control and CI/CD platform and enable secure, AI‑assisted SDLC workflows.
• CI/CD runners: modernize Linux, macOS, iOS, and Android runner fleets improving isolation, queueing, and cost attribution.
• Progressive Delivery: scale canary, health‑gated, rollback‑aware deployment patterns.
• Artifactory and supply chain: operate a Tier‑0 artifact platform and improve upgrade, backup, retention, and lifecycle practices.
• Migration and modernization: retire legacy CI/CD (Concrete) using dashboards, partner engagement, and agentic migration.
• Mobile build/release and Mobile DevOps: sustain a high release cadence while modernizing build tooling.

About the role

As a Senior Software Engineer on the founding India Delivery Engineering team, you'll design, build, and operate the software delivery systems Zillow engineers use every day. This is a hands‑on platform role with meaningful ownership across CI/CD execution, build and runner infrastructure, GitLab/Artifactory integrations, Progressive Delivery, mobile build/release systems, and migration and modernization programs. As one of the first engineers on the team, you'll help set standards and shape how a brand‑new engineering site works.

What you'll do

Design, build, and operate CI/CD execution, build, and runner infrastructure across Linux, macOS, iOS, Android, and cloud environments.

This role has been categorized as an Office position. “Office” employees regularly work at the Zillow India office for approximately 80 to 100 percent of their time each month. Employees must live within a reasonable commuting distance of the office. Zillow has not defined a reasonable distance, and expects employees will use judgment in determining this for themselves and understand the implications re: time commitment and cost of daily commute.

In addition to a competitive base pay, employees in this role are eligible for incentive compensation subject to applicable laws and relevant Zillow policies. Actual amounts will vary depending on experience, performance and location.

Who you are

6+ years building and operating production software systems, with a focus on backend, platform, infrastructure, CI/CD, SRE, or developer‑productivity engineering.

Strong proficiency in Python, Java, Go, or similar, with solid software design fundamentals and test discipline.

Hands‑on experience with CI/CD systems and optimizing compute infrastructure for build/test/deploy workloads.

Experience operating services in AWS or another cloud using containers, Kubernetes, CI/CD, and infrastructure as code such as Terraform.

Comfort with Linux and/or macOS server administration and either Android or iOS build ecosystems, or a strong willingness to ramp quickly.

Strong SDLC, architecture, automation, and operations mindset; familiarity with SaltStack, Ansible, Puppet, or comparable automation tooling is helpful.

A track record of owning ambiguous problems from discovery through production, partnering with cross‑functional stakeholders to define success.

A reliability‑first mindset: observability, incident response, runbooks, SLOs, capacity, and production debugging.

Demonstrated ability to use AI deliberately in the SDLC while validating suggestions and retaining engineering ownership.

Excellent communication and collaboration; comfortable working async‑first across US–India time zones.

Nice to have

Nice to have Experience on platform or infrastructure teams supporting many internal customers and product surfaces. Mobile build infrastructure experience (iOS or Android). Large‑scale migration, deprecation, or modernization programs. Depth in GitLab, Jenkins, Spinnaker, Artifactory, Datadog, Splunk, Rootly, or similar ecosystems. Prior experience in a founding team, new site, or distributed engineering organization.
