Job summary

GE Vernova’s Advanced Research group seeks a Senior Robotics Engineer to design, develop, and deploy cutting-edge robotic systems for manufacturing. You will lead projects from concept to deployment, integrating robots with control systems, vision, and automation infrastructure while guiding junior engineers and mentoring teams.

  • Programming in Python, C++, MATLAB; familiarity with PLC/SCADA.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design, development, and deployment of robotic/automation solutions for manufacturing lines.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing teams to identify automation opportunities and drive improvements.
  • Develop and program industrial robots, including kinematics and motion planning.
  • Integrate robots with SCADA systems and other equipment for interoperability.
  • Apply vision systems for part recognition, inspection, and alignment.
  • Travel to manufacturing sites to assess processes and implement solutions.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, PoCs, and prototyping for new technologies.
  • Develop rapid PoCs in lab environments before full-scale deployment.
  • Troubleshoot deployed systems to maximize uptime and performance.
  • Maintain detailed technical documentation and exchange knowledge with the team.
  • Stay updated on robotics trends and foster collaboration with partners.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to IP development.

The research organization is made up of 300+ researchers representing virtually every major scientific and engineering discipline. Collectively, they are driving major research programs and initiatives to decarbonize power, accelerate renewables, and promote electrification and the creation of a 21st century grid fit to power a zero‑carbon energy future.

We are seeking a Senior Robotics Engineer to develop advanced automation solutions for manufacturing processes across GE Vernova’s operations. The ideal candidate will possess a strong robotics and controls background with hands‑on expertise in implementing automation solutions in manufacturing environments. This role will focus on designing and deploying robotic systems while leveraging principles of lean to optimize production lines and workflows.

Job Description

Roles and responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, and deployment of cutting‑edge robotic and automation solutions for manufacturing lines, ensuring efficiency, reliability, and scalability.
  • Collaborate closely with manufacturing teams to analyze existing workflows, identify automation opportunities, and implement innovative solutions that improve safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
  • Develop and program industrial robots, including their kinematics, motion planning, and application‑specific tasks.
  • Integrate robotic systems with supervisory control systems and other manufacturing equipment, ensuring seamless interoperability.
  • Apply machine vision technologies, including camera systems and image processing algorithms, for part recognition, inspection, and alignment.
  • Travel to manufacturing sites as needed to collaborate with plant teams, understand operational processes, and evaluate implementation success.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, proof‑of‑concepts, and prototyping for new robotic and automation technologies tailored to specific manufacturing challenges.
  • Develop quick proof‑of‑concepts and demonstrate their value in a lab environment prior to full‑scale deployment.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues in deployed systems, ensuring maximum equipment uptime and performance.
  • Maintain detailed technical documentation, including designs, programming approaches, system architecture, and lessons learned.
  • Stay abreast of advances in robotics, automation, and manufacturing technologies by attending conferences, reviewing literature, and fostering collaboration with academic and industry partners.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers in robotics and automation concepts, fostering knowledge sharing across the team.
  • Drive innovation by contributing to intellectual property development and filing patents related to robotics and automation solutions.

Required Qualifications:

  • PhD in Robotics, Controls, Mechatronics, or a related field from a top‑ranked university (India or abroad), OR a master’s degree with demonstrated industry excellence and practical experience.
  • 8–13 years of hands‑on experience implementing robotics and automation solutions in manufacturing environments.
  • Strong foundational knowledge in robotic systems, including kinematics, dynamics, and control systems.
  • Proficient in robot programming (e.g., ABB, Fanuc, KUKA, Mitsubishi, or Universal Robots), including offline programming tools and simulation environments.
  • Experience with machine vision systems (e.g., OpenCV, Cognex, or Halcon) and their integration to enhance automation workflows.
  • Solid understanding of manufacturing concepts and a track record of deploying automation solutions in real‑world scenarios.
  • Proficiency in relevant programming languages (e.g., Python, C++, MATLAB), industrial automation tools, and control system design software.
  • Willingness to travel to manufacturing sites and work closely with plant teams to evaluate processes and implement automation solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to critically assess manufacturing challenges and design innovative solutions that address operational inefficiencies.
  • Ability to develop quick proof‑of‑concepts and demonstrate the value in a lab environment prior to full‑scale industrial deployment.
  • Strong leadership skills, with proven capability to guide teams through technical challenges and project execution.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills to collaborate across diverse teams of engineers, product managers, and manufacturing teams.

  • Familiarity with digital twin technologies and their use in optimizing robotics and automation deployments.
  • Publication and patenting experience demonstrating thought leadership in robotics and automation.
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity and data integrity concerns related to automation and robotics systems in manufacturing environments.
