Job Description
To undertake Radio / Telecommunications systems design & engineering activities within the group, lead the team for projects independently, analyse the project requirements and provide input to the project manager in respect of both design and consultancy services. To provide technical support and assistance.
Responsibilities
- Co‑ordination and assurance of Telecommunications Systems design.
- Production of reports, schedules, drawings, and technical schematics.
- Verification of the design against customer requirements and standards.
- Attendance at internal and external coordination, progress, and design review meetings.
- Undertake design reviews of other concurrent Communication Systems designs.
- Lead large‑scale telecommunications projects through to site support and final customer acceptance.
- Estimate effort required by different types of resources to complete large‑scale telecommunications projects.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior designers and engineers.
- Delegate tasks effectively, ensuring efficient workload distribution and professional development opportunities for team members.
- Review and approve design documents, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with relevant codes and standards.
- Proven experience in leading design efforts and managing projects in a client‑facing role.

- Train and mentor Graduate and Junior engineers.

- Organise knowledge share and lessons learnt sessions from projects/tasks.
- Participate in internal and external audit preparations.
- Report writing, design calculations and inter‑disciplinary meetings to be handled effectively on projects.
- Compliance with company safety and ethics policies.
- Ensure project delivery with quality and time bound; responsible for team’s output quality and project submission time adherence.
Key Experience Requirements
- 5–12 years of experience in Radio / Telecommunications systems design. Australian geography experience preferred.
- Experience in various project phases such as conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design.
- Strong understanding of cabling standards and best practices (TIA/EIA, BICSI, NEC).
- Support and develop telecommunications design deliverables such as system overview drawing, conceptual, preliminary and detailed designs, layout drawings, wiring drawings, cable schedules, rack layouts, storage & bandwidth calculations.
- Knowledge of fundamental engineering and communication systems standards and best practice.
- Knowledge and experience of the requirements for designing safety‑critical and safety‑related systems.
- Ability to produce coherent and accurate documentation.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively within multi‑disciplinary teams.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities, with attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
- Excellent mentoring and communication skills.
Qualifications
- Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in engineering, instrumentation, telecommunications, electrical or related discipline.
- Professional accreditation and certifications such as CEng, CCNA, CCNP, RCDD, PSP or manufacturer related telecommunications certifications.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and in Revit, AutoCAD, Navis, and Revu Bluebeam.
- Experience with vendor‑specific tools such as JVSG, EASE, RF tools (iB‑Wave), etc.
- Experience working with Australian Rail is an added advantage.
- Familiarity with current codes and technologies pertinent to telecommunications and building technologies.
- Quality and safety‑oriented design skills with an on‑time delivery approach.
