Job description

Careers that change lives start here. Medtronic is a global leader in healthcare technology with a Mission to alleviate pain, restore health, and extend life. Our 95,000 employees work across more than 150 countries to put patients first — developing innovative medical technologies that improve the lives of 72+ million patients each year. Your unique talents will help shape the future of healthcare while building a career grounded in purpose, growth, and impact.

A Day in the Life

As a Senior R&D Engineer, you will support the development of healthcare technologies by providing advanced structural simulation and engineering analysis that guide product design decisions. This role is responsible for independently planning and executing finite element analyses (FEA), translating design challenges into simulation strategies, and delivering data-driven recommendations that influence product performance, reliability, and safety. Working closely with cross-functional teams including Design, Test, Manufacturing, and Quality, you will apply engineering fundamentals, analytical methods, and practical judgment to solve complex mechanical problems. You will also contribute to technical excellence through mentoring junior engineers and reviewing analysis activities. This position is based in Hyderabad, India and requires collaboration with global stakeholders across multiple functional disciplines.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:

  • Independently develop finite element models from CAD geometry and execute medium-complexity structural simulations with minimal supervision.

  • Perform linear and non-linear static analyses involving contact, large deformation, and material plasticity to support product development activities.

  • Define simulation strategies, assumptions, boundary conditions, contact definitions, and material models based on design requirements.

  • Conduct engineering calculations, free body diagram analyses, and first-principles evaluations to validate simulation results where applicable.

  • Support mechanism design assessments, including kinematic and dynamic analysis activities.

  • Interpret simulation outcomes and provide design recommendations supported by engineering evidence.

  • Prepare and present technical reports to engineering teams and project stakeholders.

  • Collaborate with Design, Test, Manufacturing, and Quality teams to resolve technical challenges and optimize product performance.

  • Review analyses performed by junior engineers and provide technical mentorship to strengthen simulation quality and engineering rigor.

Required Knowledge and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in mechanical engineering with 8 to 12 years of experience performing structural finite element analysis (FEA).

  • Experience executing linear and non-linear structural simulations.

  • Proficiency using ANSYS Mechanical or Abaqus for structural analysis.

  • Ability to translate complex physical systems into simulation models through appropriate physics abstraction and simplification.

  • Knowledge of mechanics of materials and solid mechanics.

  • Experience interpreting and communicating engineering analysis results through technical reports.

Preferred:

  • Experience with hyper-elastic material modeling and fatigue simulations. LS-Dyna experience is a plus

  • Demonstrated capability to validate simulation approaches using analytical calculations, engineering first principles, experiments, or published literature.

  • Exposure to mechanism design, kinematic analysis, and dynamic analysis.
