Job summary

Ampere is seeking an experienced Senior Principal Physical Design (CAD) Engineer to join its Processor Design group in Bengaluru. You will advance high-performance PD flows, develop CAD methodologies, and work closely with implementation teams on complex PD tasks.

The role emphasizes leading PD flow development, flow verification, and automation to drive efficiency across advanced processes and technologies. Join Ampere to contribute to energy-efficient AI compute and scalable silicon design.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master’s degree with required years of PD experience.
• Experience with PD CAD flows including synthesis, place & route, and floor planning.
• Knowledge of power distribution, static timing analysis and PD verification.
• Experience with hierarchical P&R and flow development.
• Exposure to metal-fill, DFM rules and PD tooling is a plus.

Responsibilities

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Senior Principal Physical Design (CAD) Engineer to join our small but growing Processor Design group, advancing the art of high performance implementation and physical design.

Ideal candidates will develop and maintain physical design flows for high performance designs.

What you’ll achieve

• Develop and support innovative physical design methodology and custom CAD
• Work closely with implementation and physical design (PD) team
• Debugging flow issues
• Running multiple test designs through flow on latest technologies to determine impact on technology changes to area, power and timing
• Automating new flow practices for general use in the design community

About you

• Bachelor's degree with 12 years or Master’s degree with 8 years of relevent experience
• Good communication and problem-solving skills
• Experience in physical design CAD flow including synthesis, place & route, and floor planning
• Preferred - power distribution, static timing analysis and physical design verification
• Experience in hierarchical P&R and flow development.
• Experience with all aspects of PD including floorplanning, power-distribution, pad ring construction, placement, CTS, and routing.
• Understand hierarchical P&R issues including top-level floorplanning, pin-assignment, clock-distribution, critical-signal handling, hierarchical abstractions (black-box, ILM, etc.)
• Strong TCL/Perl/Makefile scripting knowledge.
• Experience in developing complex algorithms, managing, and regressing P&R flows.
• Familiar with chip-finishing issues (metal-fill, spare-cells, DFM rules, boundary-cells, etc.) for the latest generations of process technologies. Experience in tool set such as Cadence Genus, Cadence Innovus, Mentor Calibre is a big plus
