Job summary

Ramboll India Pvt Ltd in Chennai seeks a Senior or Lead Generator Specialist for Power Systems within Energy. You will contribute to FEED and detailed engineering for large international projects and work across a global team to support the green transition.

The role requires hands-on design experience with power plants and synchronous machines, strong client-facing skills, and fluency in English. Prior exposure to US/European standards is preferred.

Qualifications

• Experience with design of power plants and synchronous condensers.
• Experience with Balance of Plant and HV interfaces.
• Consulting experience on large-scale power projects.
• Experience with US/European projects and IEC/IEEE standards.
• Fluent English; additional European language is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Performing detailed engineering design of synchronous condensers and machines.
• Developing interface definitions between synchronous machines and the grid.
• Creating tender specifications and evaluating technical bids.
• Analysing reactive power, short-circuit contribution, inertia and voltage control.
• Coordinating with civil, electrical, control and grid-connection colleagues.
• Ensuring compliance with grid codes, HSE and environmental regulations.

Key responsibilities, tasks & important relations

• Performing detailed engineering design of synchronous condensers and synchronous machines, including excitation systems, protection, and auxiliary systems.
• Developing interface definitions and specifications between synchronous machines and the grid, including transformers, switchgear, protection and control, and grid compliance requirements.
• Creating tender specifications and conducting technical evaluations for synchronous condensers, generators, excitation systems, and associated transformers.
• Analysing reactive power, short-circuit contribution, inertia, and voltage control performance, and recommending system and control improvements.
• Coordinating closely with civil, electrical, control and grid-connection colleagues to ensure robust machine–grid and plant-level interfaces.
• Ensuring strict compliance with applicable grid codes, HSE, and environmental regulations.

Qualifications

• Qualifications & Experience Proven experience with design of power plants, power generating systems, and synchronous condensers.
• Experience working with Balance of Plant(BOP) including HV electrical interfaces
• Experience with both greenfield and brownfield projects.
• Consulting experience on large-scale power projects with a strong client-facing emphasis.
• Experience with gas-fired power plants is desirable.
• Fluent English and an additional European language (advantage).
• Master/Bachelor of Electrical Engineering preferably Power Systems/high voltage engineering from recognized University
• Should have the experience of 7 to 15 years in Generator design in Power plant.
• Experience of at least 3 years in the consulting firm is preferred.
• Experience in working on US and European projects, Internatioal Codes and Standards(IEC, IEEE, BS EN, IS) preferred.
