Persistent is seeking a Senior Middleware Engineer to design, implement, and support Jakarta Tomcat-based middleware on RHEL. You will drive security hardening, TLS/SSL, LDAP/SSO integration, and automation, while coordinating with DevOps, security, and application teams to ensure reliability.

The role emphasizes on-call rotations and mentoring. The position is based in Hyderabad, India, with a strong emphasis on enterprise-grade operations, incident response, and continuous platform

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Install, configure, administer, and optimize Jakarta Tomcat on RHEL.
• Manage deployments with SDLC, change, and release governance.
• Configure Tomcat instances, clustering, and HA environments.
• Design TLS/SSL configurations and certificate lifecycle management.
• Support secure communications and encryption standards.

About Position:

We are seeking a highly skilled Middleware Engineer / Platform Engineer to support and enhance mission-critical middleware environments running on Jakarta Tomcat and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL). The ideal candidate will possess strong expertise in middleware administration, platform engineering, security hardening, automation, and operational support within enterprise environments. In this role, you will be responsible for the installation, configuration, optimization, security, monitoring, and ongoing support of middleware platforms while collaborating with application, infrastructure, security, and DevOps teams to ensure platform reliability, scalability, and performance.

What You'll Do:

• Install, configure, administer, and optimize Jakarta Tomcat environments running on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL).
• Manage application deployments while ensuring compliance with SDLC, change management, and release governance processes.
• Configure and maintain Tomcat server instances, connectors, clustering, and high-availability environments.
• Design, implement, and manage TLS/SSL configurations and certificate lifecycle management.
• Support secure communication channels and encryption standards across middleware platforms.
• Configure and support LDAP, Identity Management (IDM), and Single Sign-On (SSO) integrations.
• Implement security hardening, vulnerability remediation, patch management, and compliance controls.
• Perform root cause analysis and troubleshoot issues across middleware, operating systems, applications, and infrastructure components.
• Monitor platform health, server performance, capacity utilization, and service availability.
• Develop and maintain monitoring, logging, alerting, and observability solutions.
• Support CI/CD automation initiatives using Jenkins and related deployment tools.
• Collaborate with application development, database, infrastructure, and networking teams to ensure stable platform operations.
• Support disaster recovery planning, testing, business continuity, and high-availability configurations.
• Create operational procedures, technical documentation, runbooks, and support guides.
• Participate in on-call support rotations and respond to critical incidents and production escalations.
• Mentor junior engineers and actively contribute to knowledge-sharing initiatives.
• Drive automation, standardization, and continuous platform improvements.

Expertise You'll Bring:

• 8 to 12 years of experience in Middleware Engineering, Platform Engineering, System Administration, or Infrastructure Support roles.
• Strong hands-on experience with Jakarta Tomcat administration and configuration.
• Expertise in Tomcat deployment, tuning, troubleshooting, and performance optimization.
• Experience managing enterprise-scale middleware environments.
• Understanding of Java application deployment and middleware architecture.
• Strong experience administering Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) environments.
• Knowledge of Linux system administration, performance monitoring, and troubleshooting.
• Experience with Shell Scripting, Process Management, File Systems, User and Access Management, System Monitoring.
• Familiarity with enterprise Linux operational best practices.
• Strong understanding of TLS/SSL, Certificate Management, PKI Concepts, Secure Communication Protocols.
• Experience implementing middleware and operating system security hardening.
• Knowledge of vulnerability remediation and compliance standards.
• Experience managing security incidents and remediation activities.
• Understanding of enterprise security controls and governance practices.
• Experience integrating platforms with LDAP, Active Directory, Identity Management (IDM), Single Sign-On (SSO).
• Understanding of authentication and authorization mechanisms.
• Knowledge of role-based access control and identity federation concepts.
• Experience supporting CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation.
• Hands-on experience with Jenkins, Control-M, Git, Deployment Automation Tools.
• Experience implementing operational automation and scripting solutions.
• Understanding of DevOps and platform engineering best practices.
• Proven ability to troubleshoot complex issues across Middleware Platforms, Linux Operating Systems, Application Servers, Infrastructure Components, Network Layers.
