Job summary

STEPS Talent is establishing Ahmedabad as its India headquarters. This senior role owns India business and financial operations end to end, including monthly close, intercompany billing with the U.S., HR/payroll oversight and statutory compliance.

You will build the India Business Operations team and set up the office, reporting directly to the Founder/CEO. Ideal candidates have 10+ years in operations, 5+ years in people management, and hands-on P&L and compliance experience in IT staffing or

Qualifications

• 10+ years in business operations, ideally IT staffing or professional services, with hands-on ownership of India finance operations
• 5+ years managing people; direct experience with payroll, HR and compliance functions in India
• Reads a P&L, balance sheet and cash flow and translates them into actionable management insights
• Experience working with Chartered Accountants, tax professionals, payroll providers and bankers
• Experience building processes, controls and reporting in a growing services/IT staffing business

Senior Manager, Business Operations (IT Staffing)

Build the operating backbone of a U.S. staffing company’s India business. Ahmedabad. Reporting to the CEO.

Company: STEPS Talent Consulting Private Limited (STCPL)

Location: Ahmedabad, Gujarat. On-site while the office is established and through the first 90 days; hybrid thereafter

Type: Full-time. Must be able to start within 30 days of offer

Reports to: Founder and CEO (U.S.)

Manages: People and Operations Specialist (U.S. staffing operations); HR, Payroll and Compliance Specialist (India, planned hire); the Business Operations function as it grows

Hours: Staggered India schedule, typically 2:00 PM to 11:00 PM IST, with consistent overlap with U.S. morning hours and flexibility for local business needs

We place ERP, Cloud, Data and AI, Cybersecurity and Software Engineering professionals with enterprise clients in the United States and India. We are establishing Ahmedabad as our permanent India headquarters and hiring the person who will run it.

The role

This is a founding operator role. You will not inherit a finished system. You will build one.

This is not an HR Manager, Finance Manager or administrative role. It is a hands-on business operator who knows how a staffing company runs behind the scenes.

You own India business and financial operations end to end: controls, monthly close, management reporting, intercompany billing with the U.S., HR and payroll oversight, statutory compliance, and the relationships with our Chartered Accountants, Company Secretary and bankers. You set up the Ahmedabad office and lead key corporate and banking projects. You build the Business Operations team under you. And you work directly with the Founder and CEO, with no layers in between.

What you will build in year one

• A finance and controls function that U.S. leadership can trust without checking the work twice: approval workflows, segregation of duties, auditable records
• The Ahmedabad office: premises, vendors, infrastructure, people
• A steady working rhythm with our Chartered Accountants, Company Secretary and bankers: clear handoffs, complete documentation, deadlines met without reminders
• HR, payroll and statutory compliance (PF, ESI, TDS, Professional Tax) run by a specialist you hire and manage
• Oversight of staffing back-office operations: consultant onboarding, timesheets, billing and client portals
• The reporting rhythm: one monthly view of cash, billing, payroll, compliance and open issues
• The systems backbone across Zoho Books, Tally, HRMS and our staffing platforms

What good looks like at 90 days

• Monthly close, reporting and compliance running on schedule without CEO intervention
• The Ahmedabad office and professional relationships operating with clear ownership
• The first management dashboard live, and a prioritized systems plan for the next two quarters

Who does well here

• 10+ years in business operations, ideally IT staffing or professional services, with hands-on ownership of India finance operations: monthly close, reconciliations, vendor payments, payroll controls, management reporting
• Has worked directly with Chartered Accountants, tax professionals and payroll providers, and keeps ownership inside the company
• Reads a P&L, balance sheet and cash flow and turns them into management action
• 5+ years managing people; working knowledge of Indian HR, payroll and employment compliance
• Working knowledge of U.S. staffing back-office operations: consultant lifecycle, W-2 and C2C, timesheets, client billing
• Has built processes, controls and reporting in a growing company and been personally accountable for the result. Been there, done that
• A problem-solver who owns outcomes: resolves issues at their level, escalates with options rather than questions, and does not need the CEO to close every open item
• Clear writer and speaker; discreet; comfortable working directly with U.S. leadership

Preferred: Zoho Books, Zoho People, Tally, QuickBooks or comparable systems; SAP Fieldglass, SAP Ariba or similar MSP and VMS platforms; intercompany billing across related companies in different countries; setting up a new office or managing external advisers.
