Job summary

adesso India is seeking a Senior/Lead Backend Engineer to implement Java-based microservices using Spring Boot or Quarkus. You will build scalable services, apply best coding practices, and collaborate across teams to deliver production-ready solutions.

Candidates should have hands-on experience with containers (Docker, Kubernetes/OpenShift), CI/CD, and IaC (Terraform). Knowledge of cloud platforms and monitoring (Datadog) is valued.

Qualifications

We are looking for a highly experienced Senior or Lead Backend Engineer with a strong background in developing Java microservice applications. We believe in AI and agentic coding to leverage the skills of our developers. By utilizing the newest developments inside the AI ecosystem, we enhance our processes and bring more value to our customers. The ideal candidate will have deep hands-on experience in Java-based microservice frameworks such as Spring or Quarkus, container orchestration, and CI/CD automation, along with a strong foundation in modern programming languages.

Responsibilities

Develop microservices using Java, Spring Boot/Quarkus, and integrate services effectively.

UseAI and Agentic Coding to improve development productivity and quality.

ApplyClean Code, SOLID principles, and automated unit/integration testing.

Work withDocker, Kubernetes/OpenShift, and CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI, Azure DevOps).

Manage cloud infrastructure usingTerraform (IaC) and at least one hyperscaler cloud platform.

Deliver maintainable, high-performance, and scalable solutions.

Monitor and optimize applications using tools like Datadog.

Follow secure coding practices and be familiar withOWASP Top 10.

Proficient in modern IDEs, version control, build tools, and code analysis practices.

Act as a proactive team player and collaborate closely with clients and stakeholders.

Challenge the status quo and independently solve complex or ambiguous problems.

Translate business needs into achievable tasks, plans, and roadmaps.

Work with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality, production-ready solutions.

Participate in code reviews and architecture reviews.

Coordinate with operations teams on availability, monitoring, logging, backups, and documentation.

Deliver incremental progress, adapt to feedback, and avoid unnecessary complexity.

Communicate clearly and proactively, keeping teams and stakeholders informed at all times.

Requirements

Must-Have Skills (4+ years):

• Proficiency in Java programming language and extensive hands-on experience with theSpring or Quarkus framework.
• Proven experience with APIs such as RESTful APIs, GraphQL or gRPC.
• Knowledge of databases such as PostgreSQL or MS-SQL
• Experience with developer tools such as Git, Jira, and Confluence.

Should-Have Skills (2+ years):

• Solid understanding of containerization using Docker, Kubernetes or OpenShift
• Solid understanding of Infrastructure as Code using Terraform.
• Experience with Single Sign-On (SSO) technologies like OAuth2, OpenID Connect, JWT, or SAML.

Nice-to-Have Skills (0.5+ year):

• Hands-On experience with AI and Agentic Coding e.g. Anthrophic Claude, OpenAI Codex, GitHub Copilot
• Hands-on experience with Serverless technologies (e.g., AWS Lambda, Azure Functions, Google Cloud Functions).
• Exposure to Cloud AI/ML services such as Amazon Bedrock
• Kafka messaging platforms or other event and messaging platforms.
• Experience with monitoring tools such as Datadog.
• Working knowledge of Linux operating systems and shell scripting.
