Job summary

Kyndryl is seeking a skilled software engineer to design, build, and maintain high-volume business logic on the mainframe, while refactoring legacy code for cloud and mobile interactions.

You will work on modernizing architecture with microservices, containers, and secure cloud services, contributing to major modernization initiatives and collaborating across teams.

Qualifications

• Experience working as a software engineer on complex software projects.
• Strong coding skills in Java, Python, and .Net with debugging and problem solving.
• Experience building scalable, robust software using modern methodologies.
• Proficient with relational and NoSQL databases, data mapping, XML/JSON, RESTful services.
• Knowledge of microservices, containers, messaging queues, and security practices.

The Role

Your role: Bring your specialist knowledge and experience to a company managing 50% of the world’s MIPS and play a critical role in our modernization mission. You’ll be in good company among our global community of experts leading the future of mainframe modernization. Experts who share knowledge openly and collaborate freely.

What you will do

In this role, you’ll design, build and maintain the high‑volume business logic that runs on the mainframe. At the same time you’ll play a key role in refactoring legacy code to enable modern cloud and mobile applications to seamlessly interact with the mainframe’s core data.

• Prevent decay and find efficiencies: Monitor the architecture and identify opportunities to optimize code to maintain and enhance mainframe performance.
• Find and fix: Debug, troubleshoot, and analyze complex system interactions to keep mission‑critical applications running.
• Bridge the gap: As an instrumental player in modernization, you’ll extract business logic from legacy systems for migration or integration with cloud‑based services.

Java, SpringBoot, Awareness of SOLID, Microservices Architecture, Awareness of AWS Services (EC2, Lambda, S3, APIGateway, SQS, SNS, Cloudwatch, ECS etc.), CI CD (Jenkins / Gitlab) pipelines, SQL, noSQL (Mongo/ DynamoDB), Awareness of Security (Spring and AWS IAM) and Terraform. Design patterns, HLD, LLD, Team co‑ordination, leading a team, System documentation.

Who You Are

Required skills and experience:

• Experience working as a software engineer on complex software projects.
• Excellent coding skills and solid development experience (Java, Python, .Net etc.) with debugging and problem‑solving skills.
• Software development methodologies, with demonstrated experience developing scalable and robust software.
• Experienced in relational and NoSQL databases, data mapping, XML/JSON, REST‑based web services.
• Knowledge of architecture design – Microservices architecture, containers (Docker & k8s), messaging queues.
• Deep understanding of OOP and design patterns.

Preferred skills and experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Certification in one or more of the hyperscalers (Azure, AWS, and Google GCP) - otherwise, you can obtain certifications with Kyndryl.
• Experience with DevOps tools and modern engineering practices.
