Job summary

Citi is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Banking Operations team within Consumer Operations Technology in India. You will design and deliver Java microservices that support critical banking operations at scale and impact business outcomes.

You will lead the full software development lifecycle, mentor peers, and collaborate with stakeholders to ensure robust, secure, and scalable solutions. This role offers a hybrid work model with on-site and remote collaboration.

Qualifications

• 8 to 13 years of experience in software development, with focus on analysis, design, and programming.
• Hands-on experience building Java-based applications and microservices in an enterprise setting.
• Experience delivering software projects end to end under pressure and changing priorities.
• Familiarity with project management and consulting methodologies.
• Ability to work autonomously and take ownership with minimal supervision.
• Awareness of risk and compliance considerations in engineering decisions.
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent practical experience.

Job description

Citi is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join the Banking Operations team within the Consumer Operations Technology organization, where you will design and deliver Java microservices solutions that directly support critical banking operations at scale. In this role, you will contribute across the full software development lifecycle — from feasibility and planning through to implementation and ongoing support — acting as a subject matter expert for both your team and senior stakeholders. Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and implement Java microservices applications that address specific business needs within the Banking Operations team, ensuring solutions are robust, scalable, and fit for purpose.
• Lead all phases of the software development lifecycle, including analysis, design, construction, testing, and deployment, maintaining quality and delivery standards throughout.
• Analyse complex technical and business problems, evaluate system processes against industry standards, and engineer effective solutions that improve operational outcomes.
• Define and enforce security measures and operating standards as part of post-implementation reviews, ensuring systems perform reliably and securely in production.
• Collaborate with business users, clients, and cross-functional technology teams to gather requirements, recommend advanced engineering solutions, and resolve technical issues.
• Conduct feasibility studies, support IT planning, and contribute to time and cost estimation activities to inform sound technical decision-making.
• Mentor and guide junior and mid-level engineers, sharing technical knowledge and supporting their professional development within the team.

Required Qualifications & Skills

• 8 to 13 years of experience in software application development, with a focus on systems analysis, design, and programming.
• Hands-on experience building and delivering Java-based applications, with practical knowledge of microservices architecture in an enterprise environment.
• Demonstrated ability to manage and deliver software projects end to end, navigating shifting requirements and competing priorities under pressure.
• Working knowledge of project management and consulting methodologies, with the ability to coordinate effectively across technology and business teams.
• Ability to work with a high degree of autonomy, exercising sound technical judgement and taking ownership of outcomes with minimal supervision.
• Commitment to risk awareness and compliance, including the ability to identify and elevate control issues and apply ethical judgement in day-to-day engineering decisions.
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent practical experience.
