Lead QA (ETL Tester)

Job Description
The purpose of this role is to ensure the developed software meets the client requirements and the business’ quality standards within the project release cycle and established processes. To lead QA technical initiatives in order to optimize the test approach and tools.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and execute DWH, Database, ETL, and Data Validation testing across end-to-end data pipelines.
- Analyze business and technical requirements and translate them into comprehensive test scenarios, test cases, test conditions, and test data.
- Prepare detailed test plans, test strategies, test estimates, test procedures, and expected results.
- Develop and execute complex SQL queries to validate data accuracy, completeness, consistency, transformation logic, and reconciliation.
- Perform source-to-target data validation and verify data mappings, transformations, aggregations, joins, and business rules.
- Design and execute positive, negative, boundary, exception, and data-volume test scenarios to ensure complete test coverage.
- Perform ETL testing by validating data extraction, transformation, loading, error handling, and data integrity.
- Conduct functional, integration, system, regression, data quality, performance/load, and UAT testing as required.
- Validate data across multiple databases, data sources, staging areas, DWH layers, and reporting/analytics systems.
- Investigate data mismatches and failures using SQL and other debugging techniques, identify root causes, and document findings clearly.
- Log, prioritize, track, and manage defects through JIRA and ensure timely closure with development and technical teams.
- Perform defect retesting and regression testing after fixes and ensure issues are validated across all applicable test cycles.
- Identify data quality issues and process failures and recommend appropriate remediation strategies.
- Work closely with Business Analysts, Developers, Data Engineers, Product Owners, and other stakeholders to clarify requirements and resolve testing issues.
- Participate actively in Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, refinement, daily stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives.
- Provide regular updates on testing progress, defect status, risks, dependencies, test coverage, and release readiness to project stakeholders.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of QA standards, testing frameworks, best practices, and reusable test assets.
- Identify opportunities to improve testing efficiency through automation, reusable SQL scripts, test data management, and process improvements.
- Support testing activities across medium- to large-scale projects and multiple releases.
- Mentor and guide 2–3 QA Associates, review their work, and support their technical development.
- Take ownership of assigned testing deliverables and ensure they are completed within agreed timelines and quality standards.
Must-Have Skills
- Strong hands-on experience in DWH Testing and Database Testing.
- Strong proficiency in SQL, including complex queries, joins, subqueries, CTEs, aggregations, and data reconciliation.
- Hands‑on experience in ETL Testing and understanding of ETL/data pipeline processes.
- Strong understanding of Data Warehousing concepts, including fact tables, dimension tables, star/snowflake schemas, staging, data marts, and data transformations.
- Experience with source-to-target validation and data reconciliation.
- Ability to analyze data discrepancies, debug issues, identify root causes, and document defects effectively.
- Strong ability to understand business/technical requirements and convert them into end‑to‑end test scenarios and test cases.
- Experience in functional, regression, integration, system, data quality, performance/load, and UAT testing.
- Hands‑on experience with at least one ETL tool.
- Experience working with Azure Cloud, preferably Azure Data services.
- Good understanding of Agile/Scrum methodologies.
- Hands‑on experience with JIRA or similar defect/test management tools.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and troubleshooting skills.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
Good‑to‑Have Skills
- Experience with Azure Data Factory (ADF) or other Azure Data services.
- Experience with Snowflake or other cloud‑based data warehouses.
- Experience testing REST/SOAP APIs.
- Knowledge of API testing tools such as Postman or similar tools.
- Experience with data quality and data profiling tools.
- Exposure to automation testing or scripting.
- Experience working with reporting/BI tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms.
- Experience in performance/load testing of data pipelines or databases.
- Strong stakeholder management and client communication experience.
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office tools, particularly Excel.
Educational Qualification
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
- Equivalent relevant industry experience may also be considered.
Preferred Certifications
- Microsoft Azure certifications, preferably Azure Data Engineer Associate.
- Snowflake Associate / SnowPro Core certification.
- Relevant QA/testing certifications such as ISTQB are an added advantage.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Hands‑on Senior QA / DWH Testing professional with strong SQL and ETL testing expertise.
- Strong understanding of data validation, reconciliation, data quality, and data warehousing concepts.
- Comfortable working independently on complex testing assignments and taking ownership of QA deliverables.
- Able to communicate effectively with technical teams, business stakeholders, and clients.
- Demonstrated experience in mentoring junior QA team members.
- Exposure to Azure and/or Snowflake is highly desirable.
- Strong analytical mindset with the ability to investigate complex data issues and identify root causes
