HackerRank is seeking an Engineering Manager for the Assessment Platform to shape the technical vision and execute scalable, secure solutions that power candidate assessments. You will collaborate with product teams to drive roadmap and deliver reliable systems at scale.

You will lead a growth-minded team, hire and mentor engineers, and champion operational excellence while guiding the use of AI tools to enhance development speed and quality.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software development experience, including 3+ years leading engineering teams.
• Experience designing highly available, scalable, fault-tolerant distributed systems.

• Hands-on proficiency in at least one of AWS or GCP.

About the role

As an Engineering Manager on the Assessment Platform team, you will lead the technical vision and execution for the systems that power the assessments on HackerRank. This includes giving candidates the ability to work on a real world application running on dedicated VMs with an online ADE built by HackerRank. Doing this for concurrencies of up to 100K candidates is a very interesting technical challenge. You will also partner with product teams across HackerRank to embed these solutions into every product, drive the team's roadmap, and build a high-performing, growth-oriented team that delivers scalable, resilient systems.

What you will do

Who you are

• 8+ years of software development experience, including 3+ years leading engineering teams.
• Strong experience designing highly available, scalable, fault-tolerant, secure distributed systems and large-scale web services.
• Strong technical leadership, with the ability to drive critical architecture discussions.
• Proven record of hiring, leading and mentoring technical teams and managing stakeholder expectations.
• Hands-on proficiency in at least one of Go, Python, Ruby or Node.js
• Strong hands-on proficiency in at least one of AWS or GCP.
• Clear communicator who thrives in fast-paced, evolving environments.

Even better if you have

• Experience building or scaling cloud IDEs, remote dev environments, or online coding platforms, with a developer-first mindset.
• Hands-on depth in containers, Kubernetes, and on-demand VM or sandboxed compute at scale.
• A track record of load testing, autoscaling, and capacity planning for spiky, event-driven traffic.
• Experience driving AI-assisted development practices across an engineering team.
