About The Role

Plum is looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to lead high-performing engineering teams building large-scale, distributed platforms that power our Insurance and Healthcare products. You will own the technical vision and execution for your organization, partnering closely with Product and Business leaders to define the roadmap and deliver solutions that create meaningful customer and business impact. You will build and mentor exceptional engineering teams, foster a culture of ownership and engineering excellence, make sound architectural and technology decisions, and ensure our systems are scalable, resilient, secure, and built to support rapid business growth.

AI-driven engineering is fundamental to how we build at Plum. As an engineering leader, you are expected to leverage AI across the entire software development lifecycle—from product discovery and technical design to implementation, testing, code reviews, documentation, and operations—to significantly improve engineering velocity and quality. Beyond using AI for developer productivity, you will help shape how AI influences product development by enabling faster experimentation, better decision-making, and more intelligent engineering workflows. You will champion an AI-first engineering culture, identify opportunities to embed AI into our products and development processes, and equip your teams to continuously evolve with the latest AI capabilities.

Role Responsibilities

• Lead a team of 15–20 engineers; own their growth, performance, and team culture.
• Own engineering delivery for your area — plan, prioritise, and ship reliably against the product roadmap.
• Set and maintain high engineering standards: architecture, code review, testing, and system reliability.
• Partner with product management and design to translate business goals into engineering plans and realistic timelines.
• Drive technical decisions for your area and escalat(e?) architectural concerns to senior engineering leadership.
• Progressively introduce AI tooling into the team’s development workflow to improve velocity and quality where it makes sense.

Role Requirements

• 10–15 years of software engineering experience.
• Strong software architecture and system design fundamentals — you can guide technical direction and make meaningful calls alongside your team.
• Proven track record of building and leading high-performing engineering teams of 10–20 engineers.
• Strong delivery instincts — you ship consistently, manage quality, and keep velocity high without burning the team.
• Excellent product sense and the ability to partner effectively with product managers, designers, and business stakeholders.
• Experience hiring, mentoring, and retaining strong engineers.
• Hands‑on familiarity with AI‑assisted development tools (Copilot, Cursor, or similar) is a strong plus.
