Job Description – WSP India is currently seeking a Sr. Engineer – Structures for Australia Mining Infrastructure Projects (Materials Handling Infrastructure). The role involves engineering design of structures in compliance with WSP Engineering and Client Standards. Experience in an EPCM environment in the O&G, Power plant, Chemical process plant, or Mining processing industry is an asset. The position will be based in Mumbai.
Responsibilities
- Prepare foundation, steel structure and concrete structure designs and calculations in compliance with industry standards.
- Perform analysis and design using software such as Space Gass, STAAD Pro, SACS, Tekla, E3D, or S3D.
- Maintain solid understanding of Australian Standards (AS) and international codes.
- Coordinate with other engineering disciplines (piping, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation) for seamless project execution.
- Prepare civil and structural drawings, specifications, and design calculations.
- Calculate loads and select structural members based on forces and service demands.
- Design structural solutions for industrial, commercial, and institutional projects with a focus on industrial projects.
- Design shallow and deep foundations, concrete piles, underground concrete vaults and tunnels, and slab reinforcement for various loading conditions.
- Design steel structures including buildings, additions, access platforms, ladders and stairs, trusses, and towers.
- Develop a variety of structural connections including those caused by field interferences.
- Verify field conditions, constructability of designs, and assist in resolving problems during field construction.
- Interpret and design from various domestic and foreign structural building design codes.
- Develop familiarity with WSP standard drawings, specifications, general practices, procedures, and client standards.
- Prepare reports, designs, and drawings; redline drawings for CAD Designers and review updated submittals for accuracy.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, contractors, suppliers, and team members.
- Complete a high-quality self-check of own work; follow internal QC processes.
- Report progress to immediate supervisor; understand project schedule and budget requirements.
- Communicate with internal peers and project team; answer questions regarding deliverables.
- Capable of multi-tasking and managing multiple projects with accurate time estimates for each scope.
- Coordinate with Australian lead offices as per project requirements.
- Participate in the design process and provide input to the design team.
- Provide regular work status updates, including risks or concerns, to Lead Engineer or Project Manager in AU.
- Ensure Health & Safety is embedded into all work practices in line with company policies.
- Support the company’s approach to sustainability.
- Communicate effectively in a multi-disciplinary project team; be willing to learn and be polyvalent.
- Identify improvements to enhance WSP service to clients; complete accurate timesheets by set deadlines.

- Contribute to knowledge sharing in internal and external forums.
- Remain up to date with market and competitor knowledge.

- Proficiency in MS Office and Navisworks.

Desired Skills
- Strong preference for candidates with Australian experience.
- Preference for candidates with 8–12 years of experience in a consulting firm in an EPCM environment in O&G, Power, or Mining processing industries.
- Experience in engineering design as well as shop detailing or site experience in steel and concrete structures.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with strict deadlines; effective leadership, coaching, and mentoring skills.
Qualifications
- 8–12 years of experience in structures engineering.
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering; master’s degree preferred.
- Strong organizational, technical, and communication skills; strong attention to detail.
- Experience in LEAN environments; experience with projects in Australia or New Zealand is an advantage.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- C.Eng or P.Eng qualification would be an added advantage.
