Job summary

Armstrong Fluid Technology in Bengaluru is seeking a Design Engineer responsible for engineering design and execution of offsite built Modular Performance Systems, including pump packages and plant rooms for HVAC and Fire Pump applications, as part of a multidisciplinary team.

The role requires creating 3D models, 2D drawings, BOMs, and manufacturing documentation, ensuring compliance with customer specs, schedules, and quality standards, and supporting site surveys and commissioning.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and 3–5 years’ experience in HVAC/building services or industrial project engineering.
  • Experience with engineering, manufacturing, and project execution teams in industrial/building services environments.
  • Knowledge of engineering design principles, documentation standards, and GD&T as per ASMI Y14.5.

Responsibilities

  • Perform engineering design & development for offsite-built Modular Performance Systems, including pump packages and plant rooms for HVAC and Fire Pump applications across diverse market segments.
  • Develop 3D models, 2D drawings, assemblies, and manufacturing documentation using CAD tools.
  • Provide BOMs, calculations, and purchase specifications; ensure deliverables meet schedules and quality standards.
  • Coordinate engineering changes and design updates throughout project execution and participate in design reviews.

In this role, Design Engineer is responsible for the engineering design & execution of offsite built Modular Performance Systems, including integrated pump packages & plant rooms for HVAC and Fire Pump applications, as part of a multidisciplinary project team. The role involves developing detailed engineering designs, manufacturing documentation, and technical solutions while ensuring compliance with customer specifications, project schedules, company standards, and quality requirements.

Key Accountabilities
  • Perform engineering design & development activities for offsite-built Modular Performance Systems, including integrated pump packages & plant rooms for HVAC & Fire Pump applications across diverse market segments such as commercial buildings, industrial facilities, data centres, healthcare, hospitality, and infrastructure projects.
  • Develop 3D models, 2D drawings, assemblies, sub-assemblies, fabrication drawings, and manufacturing documentation using CAD tools.
  • Provide detailed engineering support including bills of materials (BOM), calculations, purchase specifications.
  • Carry out concept-to-delivery engineering activities based on customer specifications and project requirements.
    Ensure engineering deliverables are completed within project schedules, budget, quality standards, and approved procedures.
Cross Functional Coordination & Technical Support
  • Work with Project Managers, clients, manufacturing teams, and suppliers to create and monitor project engineering plans and deliverables.
  • Coordinate engineering changes, technical clarifications, and design updates throughout project execution.
    Participate in design review meetings, planning discussions, and customer coordination meetings when required.
  • Support site surveys, installation verification, and commissioning-related engineering activities.
    Provide technical assistance to manufacturing, fabrication, procurement, and site execution teams.
  • Willingness to undertake national travel and infrequent international travel (approximately 10–25%).
Design Standards, Documentation & Compliance
  • Support adherence to project document control procedures, engineering standards, and filing systems.
  • Work with engineering teams to create and maintain standard templates, parts libraries, and drafting standards.
  • Participate in quality reviews and ensure compliance with company procedures, safety standards, and customer specifications.
  • Support implementation of design-for-manufacture and buildability principles in all engineering activities.
  • Ensure engineering outputs meet functionality, cost optimization, serviceability, and lifecycle requirements.
Continuous Improvement & Engineering Excellence
  • Work with engineering and operational teams to improve design efficiency, standardization, and project execution processes - engineering tools, workflows, and technical standards.
  • Coordinate lessons learned and best-practice sharing across engineering projects.
  • Participate in value engineering, cost reduction, and productivity enhancement initiatives.
What We’re Looking For

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in HVAC engineering, building services design, fluid management systems, or industrial project engineering.
  • Experience working with engineering, manufacturing, and project execution teams in an industrial or building services environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of engineering design principles, project engineering practices, and technical documentation standards and GD&T as per ASMI Y14.5
  • Knowledge of HVAC systems, Fire pumping systems, boiler/chiller plants, cooling towers, and related building services systems is preferred.
Technical Skills
  • Proficiency in CAD software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, CATIA, or equivalent engineering platforms.
  • Strong understanding of engineering drawings, assemblies, fabrication documentation, and BOM management.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Awareness of sustainability and energy-efficient engineering practices is desirable.
  • Understanding of design-for-manufacture, fabrication processes, and engineering coordination practices.
    Experience with Product Data Management (PDM) & PLM systems and engineering document control processes is an added advantage.
