Job summary

Sarthee Consultancy in Ahmedabad invites engineers to operate and monitor the CDQ system and related equipment within a steel plant. Qualifications

• BE/B.Tech/Diploma in Mechanical, Metallurgical, Chemical, Electrical, or Production Engineering.
• Engineer/Sr. Engineer: 3–7 years experience in Coke Oven and CDQ operations.
• Assistant Manager: 7–10 years’ experience with large capacity CDQ/heat recovery facilities.

Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor CDQ system via PLC/DCS/SCADA to maintain stable operation.
• Maintain critical process parameters including coke temperature, pressure and flow, steam generation rate, and heat recovery efficiency.
• Ensure uniform cooling of coke to avoid breakage or dust loss.
• Coordinate with Coke Oven Battery for synchronized coke pushing and transfer to CDQ.
• Support shift-wise operation focusing on steam generation and coke temperature control.
• Continuously monitor CDQ performance; initiate corrective actions when deviations occur.
• Assist in tuning control logic and interlocks with Instrumentation and Automation teams.
• Coordinate with various departments for gas recovery and environmental compliance.
• Operate and monitor CDQ cooling chamber, waste heat boiler, gas circulation fans, dust collectors, conveyors.
• Monitor equipment conditions to prevent failures and support shutdown/startup activities.
• Ensure adherence to safety protocols and ISO standards; participate in audits and incident reporting.
• Prepare daily logs and performance reports; support KPI tracking and reviews.
• Assist senior managers with process studies and continuous improvement projects.

Role & responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor the CDQ system via PLC/DCS/SCADA to maintain stable and efficient operation.
• Maintain critical process parameters including coke temperature (inlet and outlet), circulating gas temperature, pressure and flow, steam generation rate and pressure, and waste heat recovery efficiency.
• Ensure uniform cooling of coke to avoid breakage or dust loss.
• Coordinate with Coke Oven Battery for synchronized coke pushing and timely transfer to CDQ.
• Support shift-wise operation focused on optimizing steam generation and coke temperature control.
• Continuously monitor CDQ performance; initiate corrective actions when deviations occur.
• Analyze process data; support trials aimed at fuel rate reduction, steam generation improvement, and heat loss minimization.
• Assist in tuning control logic and interlocks in coordination with Instrumentation and Automation teams.
• Coordinate closely with Coke Oven Battery, Power Plant Utility Team, Maintenance (Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation), and By-Product Plant for gas recovery and environmental compliance.
• Operate and monitor key equipment including CDQ cooling chamber, waste heat boiler, gas circulation fans, dust collectors, and conveyors.
• Monitor equipment condition for vibrations, temperatures, and pressures to prevent failures.
• Manage coordination with maintenance teams for timely preventive and corrective actions and support during shutdowns and startups.
• Ensure strict adherence to CDQ safety protocols and oxygen-deficient area norms including PPE, LOTO, confined space, and hot work procedures.
• Monitor and minimize dust emissions, gas leaks, and coke spillages; maintain area housekeeping in line with ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and ISO 9001 standards.
• Participate in safety audits, incident reporting, and near-miss investigations.
• Maintain detailed daily logs covering operating parameters, steam generation and consumption, equipment runtime and downtime, coke temperature, and process efficiency metrics.
• Prepare shift and daily performance reports; support KPI tracking and monthly performance reviews.
• Assist Senior Managers with process studies, technical audits, root cause analyses, and continuous improvement projects.

Preferred candidate profile

Qualifications and Experience

• B.E./B.Tech/Diploma in Mechanical, Metallurgical, Chemical, Electrical, or Production Engineering from a recognized institution.
• Engineer/Sr. Engineer: 3-7 years experience in Coke Oven and CDQ operations in an integrated steel plant.
• Assistant Manager: 710 years’ experience including operation of CDQ heat recovery boilers and process industries with large capacity facilities (0.5 MTPA+).
• Preference for candidates with hands-on experience in PLCDCS-based systems and integrated plant environments.
