Job summary

Sakon is seeking a Senior Engineer-Data Engineering & AI to own data ingestion and operational data workflows. You will work with cross-functional teams to understand data structures, ensure accuracy of ingestion, and maintain data quality across multiple sources.

You will mentor junior engineers, optimize ETL processes, and contribute to automation and cloud-based data platforms while staying current with industry best practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS/IT/Engineering or related field.
• 3-5 years of hands-on data engineering or data operations experience.
• Strong SQL and relational database skills.
• Proficient in Python; JavaScript is a plus.
• Familiar with CSV/JSON/XML and data exchange patterns.
• Solid analytical, problem-solving, and debugging skills.
• Ability to work independently and with cross-functional teams.
• Mentor junior teammates and review their work.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Experience with ETL/data integration tools like NiFi, Airflow, or Talend.
• Cloud exposure on AWS or Azure.
• Knowledge of data warehousing, pipelines, and lifecycle management.
• Familiar with process automation, monitoring, and data quality controls.
• Experience supporting production data workflows and incidents.
• Exposure to AI/ML concepts is an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Own and manage data ingestion and operational data workflows across multiple source systems.

• Own and manage data ingestion and operational data workflows across multiple source systems.

• Execute and monitor ingestion processes for structured and semi-structured data with a strong focus on accuracy, timeliness, and completeness.

What Does the team do

We are looking for a highly capable Senior Engineer-Data Engineering & AI to join our team and play a key role in building and managing reliable data operations that support critical business processes. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working at the intersection of data, engineering, and operational excellence. You will be responsible for ensuring that data from multiple sources is ingested, validated, processed, and made available accurately and efficiently. Beyond day to-day execution, you will also contribute to improving data workflows, strengthening data quality, and driving greater scalability and consistency across our data operations landscape. This role also requires the ability to support, mentor, and guide junior team members, helping establish strong engineering discipline, operational rigor, and consistent execution standards across the team.

Our Expectations

• Bachelors degree in computer science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
• 3-5 years of proven, hands on experience in data engineering, data operations, ETL, data integration, or related roles.
• Strong expertise in SQL and relational databases.
• Good hands-on programming experience in Python; JavaScript knowledge will be an added advantage.
• Solid understanding of data formats such as CSV, JSON, XML, and related file-based data exchange patterns.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and debugging skills.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
• Ability to mentor, guide, and review the work of junior team members.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Comfortable working in a dynamic, fast-moving environment with evolving priorities.
• Experience with ETL and data integration tools such as Apache NiFi & Airflow, Talend, or similar platforms.
• Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure.
• Understanding of data warehousing, data pipeline concepts, and data lifecycle management.
• Familiarity with process automation, operational monitoring, and data quality controls.
• Experience in supporting production data workflows and handling operational incidents.
• Exposure to AI/ML concepts, AI-assisted data processing, or AI-enabled data platforms will be an advantage.
