Job description

ROLE SUMMARY

UAVX Automation Private Limited is seeking a highly capable and hands-on Senior Embedded Systems Engineer who can independently develop electronic products involving both hardware and firmware.

The selected engineer will be responsible for complete embedded product developmentfrom understanding technical requirements and selecting the appropriate architecture to schematic design, microcontroller programming, PCB development, prototype bring-up, debugging, testing and production support.

This is not a firmware-only or PCB-layout-only position. The candidate must possess strong practical knowledge of electronic hardware and embedded firmware and should be capable of diagnosing problems across both domains.

The engineer will work on high-reliability electronic systems intended for defence, marine, industrial automation and other demanding applications.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Hardware Development
  • Convert product and customer requirements into practical system and electronic architectures.
  • Design analogue, digital and mixed-signal electronic circuits.
  • Select suitable microcontrollers, processors, memory devices, communication ICs, sensors and peripheral components.
  • Develop and review power-supply circuits, including DC-DC converters, LDOs, SMPS circuits, power sequencing and protection.
  • Design input and output interfaces for sensors, switches, relays, displays, audio devices, communication modules and external equipment.
  • Incorporate protection against reverse polarity, overvoltage, overcurrent, short circuits, surges, transients, ESD and incorrect field connections.
  • Prepare complete schematics, engineering calculations, interface details and design documentation.
  • Review multilayer PCB layouts for grounding, return-current paths, signal integrity, power integrity, thermal management and EMI/EMC performance.
  • Perform component derating, power-budget and thermal calculations.
  • Prepare and maintain BOMs, approved component alternatives and obsolescence-management records.
  • Coordinate with PCB fabrication, PCB assembly, mechanical and component suppliers.
  • Support prototype assembly, board bring-up, testing and troubleshooting.
Firmware Development
  • Develop production-quality firmware in Embedded C/C++.
  • Develop applications using STM32 or equivalent ARM Cortex-M microcontrollers.
  • Configure and integrate ADC, DAC, GPIO, PWM, timers, interrupts, RTC, DMA and watchdogs.
  • Develop and debug communication interfaces including UART, SPI, IC, CAN, RS-485, USB and Ethernet, wherever applicable.
  • Develop device drivers for displays, sensors, memories, SD cards, Bluetooth modules, audio devices and other peripherals.
  • Work with bare-metal applications and RTOS-based systems, including FreeRTOS.
  • Develop state machines, control logic, error-handling routines and fault-recovery mechanisms.
  • Implement bootloaders, firmware-update mechanisms, configuration management and diagnostic logging.
  • Develop built-in-test, self-diagnostic and fault-reporting features.
  • Optimise firmware for reliability, execution time, memory usage and power consumption.
  • Maintain structured, readable and properly documented source code using Git or another approved version-control system.
Hardware–Firmware Integration
  • Take ownership of complete board bring-up and hardware–firmware integration.
  • Develop hardware-abstraction layers and interface-control documentation.
  • Debug problems involving power supplies, clock circuits, reset circuits, communication buses, peripherals and firmware.
  • Use oscilloscopes, logic analysers, multimeters, electronic loads, power supplies and JTAG/SWD debuggers for fault diagnosis.
  • Distinguish between hardware, firmware, component, assembly and communication failures.
  • Conduct root-cause analysis and implement permanent corrective actions.
  • Work closely with mechanical, manufacturing, testing and quality teams during system integration.
  • Support integration of embedded electronics with complete electromechanical products.
Testing and Compliance
  • Prepare design-verification plans, test procedures, test reports and acceptance criteria.
  • Conduct functional, performance, endurance and reliability testing.
  • Support environmental and EMI/EMC pre-compliance testing.
  • Identify and resolve conducted-emission, radiated-emission and susceptibility problems.
  • Apply good design practices for grounding, shielding, cable interfaces, filtering and PCB partitioning.
  • Support qualification and certification against applicable defence, marine and industrial standards.
  • Participate in design reviews, failure investigations, corrective actions and product-improvement activities.
  • Support FAT, customer inspection and third-party testing when required.
Production and Documentation
  • Release controlled schematics, PCB files, firmware, BOMs and manufacturing documents.
  • Maintain proper hardware and firmware revision control.
  • Prepare engineering-change requests and engineering-change notices.
  • Develop production-programming and functional-test procedures.
  • Support pilot production, troubleshooting and resolution of manufacturing problems.
  • Coordinate with vendors for component selection, fabrication, assembly and quality improvement.
  • Maintain technical records and ensure traceability of all released designs.
  • Provide technical assistance during installation, commissioning and field troubleshooting when required.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
  • B.E./B.Tech or M.E./M.Tech in Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, Embedded Systems or a closely related discipline.
  • Five or more years of hands‑on experience in embedded electronic product development.
  • Strong practical experience in both hardware design and firmware development.
  • Demonstrated experience in taking at least two embedded products from concept or prototype stage to production.
  • Strong knowledge of STM32, ARM Cortex-M or equivalent microcontroller families.
  • Strong programming skills in Embedded C/C++.
  • Experience with schematic-capture and PCB-design tools such as Altium Designer, OrCAD, Cadence, KiCad or equivalent.
  • Good understanding of analogue electronics, digital electronics, power electronics and communication interfaces.
  • Practical experience with board bring‑up, hardware debugging and firmware validation.
  • Ability to read datasheets, application notes, reference designs and technical standards independently.
