Generac Power Systems Inc. seeks a Senior Electronics Design Engineer to own and drive the board architecture for interconnect products, spanning power conversion, metering, and control architecture.
You will partner with firmware, mechanical, and manufacturing teams to deliver robust, cost-effective products for home energy systems. You will design analog, digital, and mixed-signal circuits, including AC-DC and DC-DC power supplies, revenue-grade metering, and high-power relay circuitry.
We are Generac, a leading energy technology company committed to powering a smarter world. Over the 60 plus years of Generac’s history, we’ve been dedicated to energy innovation. From creating the home standby generator market category, to our current evolution into an energy technology solutions company, we continue to push new boundaries. The Home Interconnects & Interconnect Controls team is responsible for interconnecting sources and loads across Generac’s product portfolio. We own controls and hardware that tie generators, energy storage, transfer switches, load-management devices, and metering together into a coordinated home energy system. As a Senior Electronics Design Engineer, you will own and drive the board architecture for our interconnect products - from power-conversion, metering, and control architecture through verification and production. This is an ownership role, not a pure execution one: you will set technical direction, make the architecture and component-selection decisions, and partner closely with firmware, mechanical, manufacturing, and test engineering to bring robust, cost-effective products to market.
Own and drive the board architecture - partitioning, interface definition, component selection, and power architecture. Design analog, digital, and mixed-signal circuits: AC-DC power supplies, DC-DC converters, power management, signal conditioning, sensor interfaces, communications, and embedded control systems. Design and validate AC voltage, current, and power measurement circuits, including revenue-grade metering, with attention to accuracy, calibration, and applicable standards. Design high-power relay and relay-drive circuits for load switching, including coil drive, snubbing, contact protection, and coordination with embedded control. Perform schematic capture, component selection, simulation, PCB design reviews, and hardware debugging. Balance design tradeoffs across performance, cost, reliability, manufacturability, and schedule. Apply functional safety and safety-critical design principles throughout, including DFMEA and compliance with standards such as UL 991. Drive Design for Excellence (DFx) - Manufacturability, test, reliability, and cost. Develop and execute verification and validation plans spanning bench, environmental, and system-integration testing. Support new product introduction (NPI) through pilot builds, design verification, and production launch. Support manufacturing and production at scale - resolving production issues and root-causing hardware failures across development, validation, manufacturing, and the field. Work with suppliers to evaluate components and resolve technical issues. Collaborate with firmware, mechanical, manufacturing, quality, and test engineering to deliver robust, cost-effective products. Mentor engineers and provide technical leadership through design reviews, design standards, and architecture decisions. Stay current with industry design trends and provide a roadmap for applying new technologies to our products. Improve engineering processes, design standards, and documentation.
We believe power is a promise - a shared commitment to be there for others when it matters most. For more than 65 years, we've turned big ideas into solutions that help protect homes, strengthen businesses and build a more resilient, efficient, sustainable energy future.
