Work Experience

8+ years of experience working hands‑on with projects that involve building robust electrical power systems in terms of schematics design, component selections, PCB realization, and testing.

Role Description

This role will contribute towards the development of in‑house, on‑board spacecraft power electronics.

Responsibilities & Duties

• Design, prototype, test, assemble, and validate the spacecraft electrical power subsystem (EPS) as part of Pixxel’s Electronics group.
• Perform analysis and trade studies on EPS subcomponents and work on their procurement from vendors.
• Design and realize PCBs for the EPS subsystem that will fly to space and perform critical operations onboard our satellites.
• Work closely with other subsystems to generate software requirements and interface control documents.
• Develop test plans and procedures and spacecraft and equipment operating procedures for the safe, efficient and reliable operation of the systems during all phases of spacecraft design, development, integration, testing, launch and post‑launch operations, in various environments including labs, cleanrooms and test facilities.
• Put together trade studies and plans to manufacture batteries, solar panels, and internal EPS parts such as DC‑DC converters for current and new designs.
• Identify spacecraft harness requirements for reliable operations, considering wiring, cabling, connector types, currents, voltages, EMI/EMC considerations, etc.

Desirable Skills & Certifications

• Proficiency in PCB design and a willingness to work hands‑on with electronics hardware.
• Thorough understanding of concepts involved in designing power systems for electronics – load requirements, losses, charge‑discharge, converter efficiencies, thermal management.
• Strong understanding of analog and power electronics.
• Strong experience in testing and debugging circuits, and proficiency with test equipment (power supplies, oscilloscopes, current monitors, loads, multimeters).
• Knowledge of ESD phenomena and best practices to prevent ESD.
• Experience in designing high‑reliability and fail‑safe hardware.
