The ideal candidate will automate repetitive tasks, ensure content integrity, and improve operational efficiency across publishing pipelines, leveraging Python, JavaScript, Node.js, ExtendScript, XML, and related technologies.

Qualifications

Job Summary

• We are looking for an experienced Senior Digital Publishing Automation Engineer to develop and maintain automation solutions for digital content production and publishing workflows.
• The ideal candidate will have strong programming, analytical, and troubleshooting skills, along with experience in structured content processing, digital publishing, and workflow automation.
• The role involves automating repetitive production tasks, improving operational efficiency, maintaining content quality, and ensuring timely delivery of digital publications.

Key Responsibilities

1. Automation Development

• Design, develop, test, and maintain automation scripts for digital content production and publishing.
• Automate repetitive tasks using Python, JavaScript, Node.js, ExtendScript, or other relevant scripting technologies.
• Identify opportunities to reduce manual effort and improve workflow efficiency.
• Maintain existing automation solutions and troubleshoot technical issues.

2. Content Processing and Transformation

• Process, validate, and transform structured content using XML, DITA XML, JSON, and CSV.
• Support content conversion and preparation for eBooks, educational publications, and technical documentation.
• Ensure content integrity, formatting consistency, and compliance with publishing specifications.
• Develop utilities to streamline content processing and delivery.

3. Publishing Workflow Automation

• Develop and maintain automated digital publishing workflows and production pipelines.
• Work with content management systems, publishing tools, and structured content formats.
• Support Adobe InDesign automation and related publishing processes where required.
• Monitor automated jobs, identify failures, and implement appropriate error-handling mechanisms.

4. Quality Assurance and Troubleshooting

• Investigate workflow issues, identify root causes, and implement corrective solutions.
• Develop automated checks to identify content, formatting, and structural errors.
• Maintain appropriate logging, error reporting, and technical documentation.
• Ensure automation solutions meet defined quality and delivery standards.

5. Collaboration and Process Improvement

• Collaborate with editorial, production, and technology teams to understand requirements.
• Communicate project status, dependencies, risks, and blockers proactively.
• Take ownership of assigned tasks and deliver solutions with minimal supervision.
• Recommend improvements to enhance productivity, reliability, and publishing quality.

Required Technical Skills

• Practical experience with scripting languages such as Python, JavaScript, Node.js, or ExtendScript.
• Proficiency in JSON and CSV, with experience in XML and DITA XML.
• Solid understanding of HTML and CSS.
• Experience in digital content production, transformation, publishing workflows, and automation.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, debugging, and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to independently develop practical solutions and maintain existing scripts.
• Good written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively across teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in educational publishing, school textbook production, eBook development, or technical documentation.
• Familiarity with EPUB production, content conversion, and publishing quality checks.
• Knowledge of Adobe InDesign and scripting is an advantage.
• Experience with XML-based publishing systems and workflow automation tools.

Experience and Candidate Profile

• Experience: 8-10 years in automation, digital publishing, content engineering, content operations, or a related field.
