Job Title: SolidWorks Design Engineer Pipeline Closures
Experience: 8+ Years
Domain: Pipeline Closures
Location: Offshore Pune-Baner Office
Shift: 2 pm to 11 pm (US time half-day overlap)
Key Responsibilities
- Technical Design & Sizing: Lead the mechanical and structural design of pipeline closures, pig launcher/receiver doors, high-pressure yokes, hinges, locking mechanisms, and sealing assemblies.
- Calculations & Stress Analysis: Perform and verify pressure containment calculations, finite element analysis (FEA), and thermal/fatigue stress evaluations using industry software (e.g., CAESAR II, AutoPIPE, ANSYS, or specialized mechanical design tools).
- Code & Standard Compliance: Ensure all designs strictly adhere to international codes and standards such as ASME Section VIII (Div. 1 & 2), ASME B31.4, ASME B31.8, API 6D, DNV-ST-F101, and CE/PED requirements.
- Specification & Material Selection: Prepare detailed technical specifications, data sheets, and material selection reports (MSRs) for forged hubs, split-yoke clamps, elastomeric/metallic seals, and alloy materials (carbon steel, stainless steel, low-temp alloys).
- Vendor & Interdisciplinary Management: Review and approve vendor drawings, forging specifications, and fabrication procedures; coordinate seamlessly with process, piping, stress, and instrumentation teams.
- Project & Field Support: Provide technical support during procurement, workshop fabrication, factory acceptance testing (FAT), site installation, and pre-commissioning/commissioning phases.
- Leadership & Mentorship: Lead technical design reviews (e.g., 3D model reviews, HAZOP/HAZID inputs) and mentor junior and mid-level piping/pipeline engineers.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Metallurgical/Materials Engineering from an accredited university.
- Experience: Minimum 10 to 12 years of focused experience in oil and gas pipeline/pressure vessel engineering, with deep specialization in pipeline closure and quick-opening door design within EPC, consultancy, or OEM environments.
- Licensure: Professional Engineer (PE) or Chartered Engineer (C.Eng.) registration is strongly preferred.
Technical & Software Skills
- Codes & Standards: ASME B31.4, ASME B31.8, ASME Sec VIII Div 1/2, API 6D, API 5LC/5L, DNV standards.
- Design & Analysis Tools: Proficiency in AutoCAD, 3D modeling packages (SolidWorks, Inventor, AVEVA E3D, or Smart 3D), and stress/FEA software (CAESAR II, AutoPIPE, or ANSYS).
- Material & Sealing Knowledge: Deep understanding of metallurgy, high-pressure fatigue, self-energizing O-ring/lip seal mechanics, and corrosion allowances in sour/non-sour hydrocarbon services.
Soft Skills & Competencies
- Strong leadership, project coordination, and cross-functional communication abilities.
- Proven track record in client-facing technical discussions and vendor negotiation.
- Commitment to Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) excellence and safety interlock design for pressure containment
