Job summary

CWoods India is seeking a Senior Database Engineer with strong expertise in Apache Cassandra to design data models, run and secure a distributed cluster, and handle backups and recovery end-to-end. Knowledge of PostgreSQL is also required for a secondary workload.

The role involves data modelling, cluster operations, performance tuning, and automation, with responsibilities spanning pre/post deployment activities, security, and ongoing production support.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• 3-8 years of hands-on experience managing production databases.
• Minimum 3 years of production experience with Apache Cassandra.
• Proven experience designing Cassandra data models using query-first principles.
• Demonstrated experience operating a multi-node Cassandra cluster in production.
• Hands-on experience with node addition, removal, repair, and compaction management.
• Practical experience with Cassandra backup, snapshot, and restore procedures.
• Strong command of CQL and clear understanding of Cassandra internals - SSTables, memtables, commit log, tombstones, read/write path.
• Working competence in PostgreSQL — able to operate, tune, back up, and support it independently.
• Strong SQL skills.
• Comfort operating on Linux servers without a GUI.
• Scripting ability for automation(Shell, Python, or equivalent)

We are looking for a Senior Database Engineer whose core strength is Apache Cassandra as our primary system. You will work on our distributed database platform, end to end - designing the data model, running the cluster, securing it, backing it up, and if necessary , performing recovering.

Knowledge of PostgreSQL will also be required for a smaller set of data. You will have extensive expertise in order to develop and manage tasks from scratch on an independent basis.
