Position Summary: Demonstrates up-to-date expertise and applies this to the development, execution, and improvement of action plans by providing expert advice and guidance to others in the application of information and best practices; supporting and aligning efforts to meet customer and business needs; and building commitment for perspectives and rationales. About the team

Sam’s Membership Growth Strategy team accelerates acquisition, engagement, and retention for Sam’s Club Members. We operate at the intersection of product, marketing, and strategy using advanced analytics, experimentation, and data science to unlock member‑centric growth across the business.


What You’ll Do

As a Senior Data Scientist, you will partner deeply across Membership, Product, Marketing, and Operations to surface insights, build predictive frameworks, and influence decisions that shape the future of Membership at Sam’s Club.


Deliver Impactful Analytical Insights


  • Analyze behavioural, transactional, and digital data to uncover growth opportunities

  • Conduct deep-dives into acquisition performance, benefit adoption, churn risk, and retention drivers

  • Identify friction points throughout the membership lifecycle and recommend optimizations


Build Advanced Analytical & Predictive Models


  • Create predictive models such as acquisition propensity, churn risk, CLV, and benefit adoption

  • Build customer segmentation frameworks to support targeted marketing and personalized experiences

  • Partner with engineering and data teams to ensure models are usable and integrated into workflows (not full deployment ownership)


Experimentation & Causal Measurement


  • Design, analyze, and interpret A/B tests across product and marketing initiatives

  • Apply causal inference techniques (e.g., diff-in-diff, uplift modeling, MMM) to measure impact

  • Translate test results into actionable recommendations for senior stakeholders


Influence Membership & Business Strategy


  • Present insights and recommendations clearly to cross‑functional teams

  • Develop analytical narratives that shape Membership strategy and roadmap decisions

  • Support planning cycles with forecasting, opportunity sizing, and scenario modelling


Collaborate Across the Sam’s & Walmart Ecosystem


  • Work closely with cross‑functional partners across Membership, Product, Marketing, Finance, Operations, and Walmart’s broader Data & Analytics org.

  • Partner with Staff and Principal Data Scientists to align analytics to the long‑term membership growth vision


What You’ll Bring

Technical Skills


  • 4‑8 years of experience in data science, analytics, or related fields

  • Strong SQL and Python skills (pandas, scikit‑learn, statsmodels)

  • Hands‑on experience with predictive modelling and working with large datasets

  • Strong understanding of A/B testing, causal inference, and statistical analysis

  • Experience with cloud data environments (e.g., BigQuery, Snowflake, Spark)


Business & Strategic Skills


  • Ability to structure ambiguous business problems into analytical solutions

  • Experience with growth, marketing, product analytics, or membership/subscription models

  • Strong communication and stakeholder management; can translate data into decisions

  • Comfort influencing cross‑functional partners without formal authority

Minimum Qualifications


  • Bachelors degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field and 3 years experience in an analytics related field.

  • Masters degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field and 1 years experience in an analytics related field.

  • 5 years experience in an analytics or related field.
