Do you enjoy collaborating across teams to build and deliver products that make a difference?

About The Team

Help shape the future of Elsevier’s technology infrastructure by bringing our operational data to life.

The Analytics and Insights team within Technology Infrastructure and Operations (TIO) delivers actionable reporting and insights on Elsevier’s technology infrastructure and operational performance. We support technology operations and infrastructure teams, Technology leadership, and wider business stakeholders with analytics on Elsevier’s technology estate, including our multi-cloud environment.

About The Role

As a Senior Data Analyst, you will design, build, and maintain scalable, well-governed data models that power analytics and reporting across Elsevier’s IT and multi-cloud infrastructure estate.

You will operate at the intersection of analytics and data engineering, transforming raw operational data into trusted, analytics‑ready datasets. Reporting areas include cloud efficiency (for example, AWS resource usage and optimization), software asset insights, and other operational performance metrics. You will develop and maintain data models using dbt to provide transparency and clarity into business metrics. You will own the transformation layer, primarily using dbt and Snowflake, applying software engineering principles to analytics development.

Responsibilities
  • Design, build, and maintain scalable, modular data models using dbt to support analytics and reporting across Technology Infrastructure and Operations
  • Translate business and reporting requirements into robust, reusable data models with clearly defined metrics and logic
  • Implement data transformation best practices, including testing, documentation, version control
  • Collaborate closely with data engineers to ensure reliable ingestion, schema evolution, and data quality controls
  • Partner with analysts to enable high-quality dashboarding through well-structured, analytics-ready datasets
  • Perform data profiling, validation, and root cause analysis to improve data quality and reliability
  • Lead analytics initiatives end-to-end: discovery, requirements, iterative development, validation, release, maintenance, and user support
  • Lead technical design discussions and contribute to architectural decisions in the analytics stack
Requirements
  • Significant experience in analytics engineering, data transformation, or modern BI engineering roles
  • Advanced SQL expertise, including performance optimization and complex transformation logic
  • Experience building and maintaining data models using dbt in production environments
  • Python for data processing and automation
  • Experience working with cloud data warehouses, preferably Snowflake
  • Strong understanding of dimensional modelling, semantic layers, and metric standardization
  • Experience with AWS or equivalent cloud technologies
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to translate business requirements into technical data models
  • Experience implementing data testing frameworks and maintaining high data quality standards
  • Clear written documentation skills, particularly for metric definitions logic, and lineage
  • Experience with Tableau or Power BI
