Job Description Summary

Responsible for activities related to the Construction, Building and Commissioning on customer site, from site mobilization, through Civil, Erection and Commissioning work, as well as management activities related to this scope. Impacts the team's ability to achieve Safety, Quality, Cost and timeliness of objectives. High levels of operational judgment are required to achieve outcomes required. The Senior Construction Manager is responsible for the site-wide execution of electrical installations within an EHV AC / HVDC Converter Station. This includes the Generator / Converter Transformer yard, Valve Halls, AC/DC Switchyards, Control Buildings and Cooling systems. The primary focus is on ensuring "zero-defect" installation of High-Voltage equipment and precision integration of Control and Protection systems.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Large Scale AC and HVDC-Specific Technical Execution
  • Civil Work :- Supervision and Management of Large Volume of Civil Work for AC Switchyard and HVDC Converter Station having various Concrete and Pre-engineered Buildings having detailed knowledge of Field Quality Plans.
  • High-Voltage Equipment Installation: Overseeing the installation of Converter Transformers, HVDC Valves, Smoothing Reactors, Filter Banks, HVDC Bushings, GIS, AIS Equipment.
  • Valve Hall Management: Managing the clean-room environment requirements for valve hall construction, including fiber-optic cabling, cooling pipe connections, and thyristor/IGBT valve assembly.
  • Auxiliary System Installation and Interfaces: - Co-ordinating the Construction Power Setup and installation of Auxiliary System i.e. AC and DC Power Distribution, HVAC System, Fire Fighting System, Building Management System, PA System etc and their interface management.
  • Precision Termination: Supervising specialized teams in the termination of HVDC cables and busbars where contamination control and torque precision are critical.
  • Grounding & Lightning Protection: Ensuring the integrity of the extensive site grounding mat, which is mission-critical for HVDC station safety.
• Technical Integration & Commissioning Support
  • Control/Protection Integration: Coordinating with commissioning engineers to ensure that secondary systems (fiber optics, control panels, protection relays) are correctly landed and verified prior to "Control Power On."
  • On-site Testing & Commissioning: Co-ordinate comprehensive testing and commissioning of primary and secondary equipment in HV/EHV AIS (Air Insulated Switchgear) and GIS (Gas Insulated Switchgear) substations and HVDC converter stations.
  • Commissioning Readiness: Preparing the station for the rigorous Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) phases.
  • Document Control: Managing "red-line" drawings and ensuring all electrical modifications made during the build are accurately captured for the final "As-Built" documentation.
• Specialized Site Management Contractor Management
  • Handling Large Sub-contractors for Civil, Erection and Testing & Commissioning activities of AC Switchyards and HVDC Converter Station starting with Contractor Selection, Onboarding as per Company’s set criterions, Mobilization, Execution, Commercials and Project Closing.
  • Method Statements : Capable of Framing Method Statements of Civil, Erection T&C activities and deployment at Project Sites.
  • Team Management : Efficient in handling large teams of Civil, Erection and T&C works deployed at multiple sites and aligning their objectives to Company’s objectives
  • Cleanliness Protocols: Enforcing strict site hygiene in areas containing sensitive electronic components (valve halls) to prevent dust or metallic debris intrusion.
  • Logistics Coordination: Managing the delivery and offloading of "heavy-haul" equipment (e.g., transformers weighing hundreds of tons), requiring precise crane planning and heavy-lift rigging oversight.
  • Interface Management: Coordinating between the DC yard civil works (trenching/conduits) and the high-voltage electrical assembly teams.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Prepare, review, and manage Project Progress Reports, Testing and commissioning documentation, including test reports, commissioning certificates, and as-built drawings/schematic markups, in coordination with the engineering department.
  • Site Coordination: Supervise site technicians and contractors, manage manpower, coordinate schedules, and provide daily progress reports to the Project/Commissioning Manager.
  • Safety & Compliance: Uphold rigorous health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards and compliance with local/international regulations

Required Qualifications & Skills

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Power Systems, or a related field.
• Experience Level: Minimum 10 years of proven experience in large scale HVDC / Infrastructure Projects having 5-6 M$ with 5 Years in a leadership or supervisory capacity.
• Specialized Training: Knowledge of HVDC-specific safety standards (e.g., arc flash mitigation for DC, fiber-optic handling, and specialized HV cable testing).
• Systems Knowledge: - Familiarity with gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) or air-insulated switchgear (AIS) and converter control architectures.
• Expertise in interpreting electrical single-line diagrams, schematics, and equipment wiring diagrams.
• Soft Skills: Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills. Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with diverse teams and clients. High attention to detail and commitment to quality assurance.
• Willingness to travel extensively to project sites for extended periods.
