Job summary
Amplify Health Asia Pte. Limited is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer in India to design, develop and support backend solutions that connect Amplify Health products with customer platforms.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, IT or related discipline.
- Minimum 7 years of backend or integration development in enterprise apps.
- Strong Java and Spring experience: Spring Boot, MVC, Data, Security, Integration.
- Experience with microservices, RESTful APIs and API mappings.
- PostgreSQL and SQL, with migrations using Hibernate/JPA.
- Proficiency in Azure, Docker, Kubernetes and CI/CD pipelines.
- Security, authentication and authorization practices.
- Healthcare tech or claims processing exposure is preferred.

The Senior Backend Engineer is a hands-on customer implementation engineering role responsible for designing, developing, integrating, deploying and supporting backend solutions that connect Amplify Health products with customer platforms and operational workflows. The role is based in India and reports to the Implementation Lead.
The role combines strong Java and Spring engineering capability with practical ownership of client-facing APIs, FHIR gateways, mapping and validation services, claims-processing flows, database changes, environment readiness, controlled releases and production issue resolution. The successful candidate will work closely with Senior Backend Engineers, Product Engineering, QA, Platform/DevOps, Service Management and customer technology teams to deliver reliable end-to-end solutions within agreed implementation scope and timelines.
- Own backend engineering deliverables for assigned customer implementations from technical analysis and estimation through development, testing, deployment and post-release validation.
- Translate approved customer requirements and functional designs into practical implementation solutions aligned with product capability and architecture.
- Build customer-facing integration components without compromising the maintainability and reuse of underlying product services.
- Identify technical dependencies, assumptions, risks and gaps early, and provide clear options and recommendations to the Implementation Lead and relevant stakeholders.
- Coordinate implementation work across Product Engineering, QA, Platform/DevOps, Business Analysis, clinical and customer technology teams.
- Design, develop and maintain RESTful APIs, FHIR gateway services, mapping layers, callbacks and service-to-service integrations using Java and Spring Boot.
- Implement mappings between customer payloads, HL7 FHIR resources and internal claims models, with clear validation and error-handling behaviour.
- Work with business and technical stakeholders to clarify field definitions, source-system ownership, mandatory data, validation rules and response expectations.
- Implement validations at the appropriate service boundary and ensure actionable errors are propagated consistently through client-facing responses.
- Prepare and maintain API specifications, payload examples, mapping documents and technical notes needed for customer integration and testing.
- Develop and support implementation logic for claims processing, benefit matching, calculations, tariffs, provider information, clinical mappings and pre-authorisation workflows.
- Build and support end-to-end request and response flows across customer channels, gateways, data-enrichment components and Core Claims services.
- Analyse customer-specific requirements and determine whether each need should be handled through product capability, configuration, integration logic or an approved workaround.
- Collaborate with Product Engineering and Business Analysts where product gaps, enhancements or reusable capabilities are identified.
- Ensure implementation behaviour is traceable to agreed requirements and test scenarios.
- Design and maintain backend persistence and data-processing components using PostgreSQL, SQL, Hibernate and JPA.
- Write and review database scripts, schema changes, data corrections, cleanup jobs and migration utilities required for customer implementation and release activities.
- Assess data volume, dependencies, integrity and rollback considerations before executing changes in customer environments.
- Use controlled migration practices such as Flyway or equivalent tooling and clearly document any manual scripts or decisions required during execution.
- Optimise database queries and batch-processing logic to support implementation performance and operational requirements.
- Work with Microsoft Azure, Docker, Kubernetes, Helm and approved CI/CD pipelines to deploy and validate implementation services across sandbox, development, UAT, pre-production and production environments.
- Coordinate with Platform/DevOps and customer teams on environment configuration, endpoints, connectivity, secrets, access and deployment dependencies.
- Prepare implementation plans, build and version details, verification steps, fallback or rollback plans and release evidence for change approval.
- Support controlled releases and ensure that only approved implementation scope is promoted to each customer environment.
- Perform post-deployment technical validation and coordinate handover to QA, business testing and service-management teams.
- Create unit and integration tests using JUnit, Mockito and related technologies, and provide testable builds and technical evidence to QA.
- Support SIT, UAT and regression testing by investigating defects across API, mapping, service, database and environment layers.
- Participate in code reviews and follow engineering standards for secure, maintainable, observable and supportable implementation code.
- Remediate application and dependency vulnerabilities and support evidence required for security review and release approval.
- Use feature flags or controlled configuration where appropriate to manage incomplete, phased or customer-specific functionality safely.
- Troubleshoot customer implementation and production issues using application logs, monitoring information, database evidence and code-level debugging.
- Perform structured root-cause analysis for failed requests, incorrect mappings, API errors, response failures, connectivity issues and performance degradation.
- Investigate end-to-end response time across gateways, claims services, external services, storage and asynchronous processing, and implement corrective actions.
- Design practical resilience measures covering timeouts, retries, asynchronous processing, idempotency, reconciliation and failure recovery.
- Support incidents, hotfixes, controlled production deployments and post-release monitoring while following agreed change processes.
- Break complex implementation work into clear, actionable tasks, identify owners and dependencies, and support realistic delivery planning.
- Provide technical guidance to implementation developers, review pull requests and help resolve complex integration, deployment and data issues.
- Maintain accurate implementation records in Jira, Confluence, API specifications, release notes and operational runbooks.
- Communicate technical status, blockers, risks and options clearly to the Implementation Lead and cross-functional stakeholders.
- Support knowledge transfer, reusable implementation patterns and continuous improvement across customer delivery teams.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or a related discipline.
- Minimum 7 years of professional software engineering experience, including substantial hands-on backend or integration development in enterprise applications.
- Strong hands-on experience with Java and Spring technologies, including Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Data, Spring Security and Spring Integration.
- Demonstrated experience designing and delivering microservices, RESTful APIs, JSON integrations and server-side business logic.
- Practical experience with API mapping, validation, error handling and gateway or integration-layer development.
- Strong PostgreSQL and SQL skills, including relational modelling, query optimisation, transactions, scripts and controlled database migration.
- Hands-on experience with Hibernate/JPA, JUnit, Mockito, Maven or Gradle, Git and CI/CD pipelines.
- Practical experience with Microsoft Azure, Docker, Kubernetes and Helm.
- Experience supporting deployments across multiple environments and preparing implementation, verification and rollback plans.
- Experience troubleshooting production issues using logs, monitoring and database evidence, with strong root-cause analysis capability.
- Experience with application security, authentication and authorisation, secrets management, dependency remediation and secure coding practices.
- Experience in health insurance, claims processing, benefit configuration, pre-authorisation or healthcare technology is strongly preferred.
