About the opportunity
Senior Analytics Engineer

SQL | Python | Data Engineering | Business Intelligence

Location: India

Employment Type: Full-time

Working Hours: Aligned with UK business hours

Experience: Typically 4+ years in analytics engineering, data engineering or business intelligence

About the opportunity

Opvia is hiring a Senior Analytics Engineer to work closely with a UK wellbeing and ecommerce brand.

You will help turn data from across the business into reliable datasets, clear reporting and useful insights. Working with UK stakeholders across commercial, marketing, finance and operations teams, you will build the data foundations that support better everyday decisions.

This is a hands‑on opportunity for someone who enjoys both the engineering behind reliable data and understanding how that data gets used.

What you will do
  • Build, maintain and improve ETL/ELT pipelines that bring together data from business systems, APIs, databases and external sources.
  • Transform raw data into clean, well‑structured datasets for analysis, dashboards and reporting.
  • Design scalable data models, including fact and dimension tables, with clear business logic and consistent metric definitions.
  • Write and optimise SQL queries to improve processing speed, reporting performance and warehouse efficiency.
  • Use Python to automate data ingestion, validation, reconciliation and recurring reporting workflows.
  • Develop and maintain dashboards, reporting datasets and self‑service analytics tools that help teams monitor performance.
  • Support analysis across sales, customer behaviour, acquisition, retention, product performance and operational efficiency.
  • Implement data quality checks, monitor pipeline reliability and investigate discrepancies or failed workflows.
  • Work directly with stakeholders to understand requirements, prioritise requests and translate business questions into practical data solutions.
  • Maintain documentation covering data models, transformations, dependencies and key metrics.
  • Take ownership of delivery from initial requirements through testing, deployment and ongoing improvements.
What we are looking for
  • Strong experience in analytics engineering, data engineering, BI engineering or a closely related role.
  • Advanced SQL skills, including joins, CTEs, window functions and query optimisation.
  • Practical Python experience for data processing, automation and integration.
  • Experience building and maintaining production ETL/ELT pipelines.
  • Hands‑on experience with at least one modern data platform, such as Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift or Databricks.
  • A sound understanding of data warehousing, dimensional modelling and reusable transformation logic.
  • Experience building dashboards or preparing reporting datasets for tools such as Looker, Power BI, Tableau, ThoughtSpot or similar.
  • Experience validating data, troubleshooting issues and improving the reliability of reporting.
  • Familiarity with Git, code reviews and structured development practices.
  • Clear written and spoken English, with the ability to explain technical findings to business stakeholders.
  • Confidence working independently, managing priorities and collaborating with an international team.
  • Availability to work from India with regular overlap with UK business hours.
Good to have
  • Experience with dbt, including models, tests, documentation and incremental transformations.
  • Familiarity with Airflow or similar workflow orchestration tools.
  • Experience in ecommerce, retail, consumer brands or other businesses with high-volume transactional data.
  • Exposure to customer segmentation, cohort analysis, conversion funnels, retention and marketing performance measurement.
  • Familiarity with GA4, ecommerce platforms, CRM systems or advertising data integrations.
  • Experience with cloud services on AWS, GCP or Azure.
  • Exposure to CI/CD, access controls, data governance or warehouse cost optimisation.
  • Experience mentoring colleagues or guiding technical delivery.

You do not need experience with every tool listed. We value strong fundamentals, ownership and the ability to learn an unfamiliar data environment.

Why join?
  • Work closely with a UK brand in the wellbeing sector.
  • Own meaningful projects across data pipelines, modelling and business reporting.
  • See how your work influences commercial and operational decisions.
  • Collaborate directly with stakeholders and help shape how the business uses data.
