Job Summary
Perform research, design, and development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) solutions leveraging agentic workflows toward automating the ingestion, processing, analysis, and visualization of clinical trial data. Transform structured and unstructured clinical data into actionable information that supports better understanding of trends, safety signals, and therapy efficacy. Deploy high‑performing AI models and agent‑based systems into production environments. Work with internal stakeholders to develop solutions that improve efficiency, scalability, and accuracy across clinical data processes. Contribute to the organization’s strategic objective to be at the forefront of applying AI, LLMs, and NLP technologies within clinical trials to enhance data‑driven decision making and uncover complex patterns.
Primary Responsibilities
- Design, develop and deploy AI/ML models, LLM‑based solutions, and agentic workflows that automate the analysis, interpretation, and correlation of clinical data.
- Develop pipelines and systems that leverage NLP to extract, summarize, and derive insights from structured and unstructured clinical datasets.
- Build and orchestrate agent‑based workflows capable of multi‑step reasoning, task execution, and integration with enterprise systems and APIs.
- Maintain and enhance existing AI/ML models, pipelines, and applications on a regular basis.
- Increase team productivity by developing, identifying, and implementing improved tools, frameworks, and processes for AI and software development.
- Engage with internal cross‑functional stakeholders to design and implement AI‑driven solutions while developing a strong understanding of underlying clinical data and business workflows.
- Exemplify best practices in documentation, coding, testing, and deployment of AI‑enabled applications.
- Develop and contribute to standard operating procedures for artificial intelligence, agentic workflows, and software development practices within clinical trial environments.
- Prototype new AI capabilities, tools, and technologies to create proof‑of‑concepts and demonstrations.
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to engineers and data scientists.
- Assist in execution of responsibilities across engineering and data science functions, including developing and deploying AI/ML models, assisting with research of new models, maintaining analytics solutions, delivering technical design and documentation, prototyping new ideas, and contributing to standards and best practices.
- Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
- Adhere to all essential systems and processes required at SDC to maintain compliance with business and regulatory requirements.
Required Skills
- Expertise in Python and AI/ML libraries, including frameworks supporting NLP and LLM integration.
- Strong understanding of AI/ML algorithms and techniques, including natural language processing, classification, clustering, anomaly detection, and information retrieval.
- Experience developing and deploying LLM‑based applications, agentic workflows, and AI‑powered systems in production environments.
- Experience working with Microsoft Azure ecosystem, including Azure AI Foundry, Azure OpenAI, and Azure Machine Learning.
- Strong proficiency in SQL and working with large‑scale structured and unstructured datasets.
- Experience with software development lifecycle, including CI/CD and DevOps practices.
- Ability to work with stakeholders to translate business and clinical requirements into clear technical solutions.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to discuss technical concepts with non‑technical audiences.
- Strong organizational, time‑management, interpersonal, collaboration, and presentation skills.
Preferred Skills
- Experience applying AI/ML, NLP, or LLM‑based solutions within healthcare, life sciences, or clinical research environments.
- Familiarity with clinical data standards, including CDISC (SDTM, ADaM), and other regulatory data models.
- Exposure to regulated environments, including GxP, FDA compliance, or similar frameworks.
- Understanding of clinical trial processes, data collection methods, and operational workflows.
- Experience developing or supporting solutions involving clinical datasets, patient data, or safety/efficacy analysis.
- Familiarity with data governance, validation, and audit requirements within regulated industries.
- Experience collaborating with cross‑functional teams including clinical, regulatory, and data management stakeholders.
Education or Equivalent Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, or related field.
- Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in software engineering, application development, or data science.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in AI/ML, NLP, or large language model solutions.
- Experience working within structured software development lifecycle (SDLC) frameworks and Agile methodologies.
