Job summary

365 Group is seeking compassionate Secure Transport Attendants to join our Barnsley team. This vital role involves transporting both informal and detained patients under the Mental Health Act, ensuring their safety, dignity, and well-being throughout the journey.

You will work with healthcare professionals, security staff, and emergency services when needed; perform risk assessments; and maintain accurate journey records.

Qualifications

  • Valid driving license with no more than 3 points.
  • First Aid at Work / FREC 3 is desired but not essential.
  • Experience in a mental health setting is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Safely transport patients who are detained or informal, ensuring their comfort, dignity, and safety at all times.
  • Comply with all relevant mental health legislation, policies, and procedures during transportation.
  • Conduct thorough risk assessments prior to each journey and implement appropriate safety measures.
  • Provide patient-centred care, offering reassurance and support, particularly when working with vulnerable individuals.
  • Assist with patient mobilisation, including helping patients get in and out of vehicles, ensuring proper handling techniques.
  • Maintain accurate, detailed documentation of each journey, including patient details, journey times, and any incidents.
  • Be on standby and on call as required, ready to respond promptly to urgent transportation needs.
  • Work within set shifts, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and public holidays, as part of a flexible rota.
  • Collaborate effectively with healthcare professionals, security personnel, and emergency services when needed.
  • Ensure vehicles are well-maintained, clean, and stocked with necessary equipment and supplies.

Person Specification
  • Compassionate and empathetic attitude towards patients of all ages and backgrounds.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in high‑pressure situations.
  • Previous experience in a healthcare, security, or transportation role is desirable.
  • Knowledge of mental health legislation and safeguarding procedures is advantageous.
  • Physically fit and able to assist with patient handling and vehicle operations.
  • Flexibility to work on‑call, standby, and set shift patterns.
  • Commitment to patient confidentiality and data protection.
