Job summary

Hitachi Energy is seeking an experienced design authority for a challenging substation engineering role in Chennai. You will drive design activities, perform calculations, and prepare BOQs for erection, along with interface diagrams and testing plans.

The role requires 12-15 years of experience, proficiency with CAD tools (E3), and strong knowledge of IEEE/IEC standards. English communication is essential for global collaboration and vendor reviews.

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in engineering with 12-15 years of experience.
• Proficiency in CAD design tools (E3, etc.).
• Knowledge of relevant IEEE, IEC standards.
• Knowledge in substation tendering and project engineering (technical & commercial).
• Proficiency in both spoken and written English.

Responsibilities

• Review Tender documents and prepare the Design Intent Document.
• Prepare Protection SLDs showing relays and meters.
• Prepare Functional Design Standards and interlocks; review vendor drawings.
• Prepare schematic diagrams for interfaces in Control & Relay Panels.
• Create circuit diagrams for new and retrofit setups; prepare cable diagrams and schedules.
• Coordinate with primary, control and protection teams; vendor evaluation and FAT/SAT when needed.
• Estimate engineering effort for tender stages and drive cost-conscious design.

Job description

The opportunity:

Design authority for an engineering discipline with low to medium complexity. Complete assignments on small projects or portions of larger projects, cost-effectively and in accordance with contract specifications, quality standards and safety requirements. Based on technical specification from end customers and inputs from LPG Engineering team, prepare substation layouts, sections, Bill of materials, RFQs, vetting of vendor offers, engg hours estimation, visit to project sites, technical risk assessment and opportunity evaluation etc. Also involve in project detail engineering, perform engineering calculations, erection key diagram, detailed BOQ for erection, cable engineering etc.

How youll make an impact:

• Review of Tender document and preparation of Design Intent Document. Preparation of Protection SLD showing relays and meters.
• Preparation of Functional Design Standards. Preparation of Logics & Interlocks. Review of Vendor drawings and documents (technical vetting of Control & Relay panels, Auxiliary System).
• Preparation of schematic diagrams for the interfaces equipment in Control & Relay Panel scheme thus providing completeness.
• Preparation of circuit diagrams New & Existing Set-up (applicable for retrofit projects). Preparation of Cable block diagram and Cable Schedule.
• Preparation of Wiring/Termination diagrams and of Core sheets and SCS IO Schedule.
• Preparation of Voltage drop calculation - Trip & Close coil, LVAC power cable. Identification of existing drawings and modifying them using red and green markups as per UK standard requirements.
• Interface knowledge with Primary Equipment, Bay Controller Units /SCADA/RTU are essential. Auxiliary Power System design like Low Voltage AC Panel & DC Panel requirements.
• CT / VT Sizing & Battery Sizing calculations and Built documentation.
• Co-ordination with other departments like primary, control and protection, lead engineer, sourcing etc for design progress & completion13. Vendor Offer Evaluations. FAT / SAT of primary equipment, system as and when needed.
• Responsible for obtaining customer approvals for the designs and drawings. Technical risk and opportunity assessment and validation. Take part in customer meetings / site visits for tender/project clarifications.
• Estimation of engineering effort for each project for costing at tender stage. Innovative ideas to reduce Engineering effort. Plan, implement, review and continuously improvize quality system.

Your background:

• Bachelors degree in engineering, with 12-15 years of experience.
