Job summary

Cerebra in Chennai is seeking an experienced SAP BTP Application Development Engineer to design, develop, deploy, and manage cloud-native enterprise applications on SAP BTP. The role focuses on full-stack development using Node.js, SAPUI5, and SAP HANA, with emphasis on integrating AI capabilities such as LLMs and RAG into business workflows.

Job Description: SAP BTP Application Development Engineer AI Native
Project Role: Custom Software Engineer
Location: Chennai

We are looking for an experienced SAP BTP Application Development Engineer to design, develop, deploy, and manage cloud-native enterprise applications on SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP). The ideal candidate will have strong full-stack development skills, hands-on SAP BTP experience, and practical knowledge of integrating Generative AI and agentic AI capabilities into enterprise applications.

The role involves building scalable cloud applications using SAP BTP, Node.js, SAPUI5, SAP HANA, and modern development practices, while implementing AI-powered workflows using LLMs, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), tool calling, and evaluation frameworks.

Key Responsibilities

1. SAP BTP Application Development

• Design, develop, deploy, and maintain cloud-based applications on SAP BTP.
• Configure BTP subaccounts, service instances, roles, permissions, and connectivity.
• Apply SAP BTP architecture and application development best practices.

2. Full-Stack Development

• Develop backend services, REST APIs, CRUD operations, business logic, and validations using Node.js.
• Build responsive user interfaces using SAPUI5, XML views, controllers, and the MVC architecture.
• Integrate frontend components with backend APIs and implement data read/write functionality.
• Develop secure, scalable, and maintainable enterprise applications.

3. Data Modelling and Persistence

• Design database tables, views, entities, relationships, and data models.
• Integrate applications with SAP HANA and other enterprise data sources.
• Implement data persistence, validation, and database connectivity patterns.

4. Deployment and Platform Engineering

• Configure destinations and connectivity for external APIs and databases.
• Package and deploy applications using Multi-Target Application (MTA) deployment artifacts where applicable.
• Troubleshoot application, database, connectivity, and service exposure issues.
• Support application lifecycle management and production readiness.

5. AI-Native Application Development

• Integrate LLM-powered features into SAP BTP applications and business workflows.
• Implement AI agents with tool calling, orchestration, memory/state management, and controlled action execution.
• Develop RAG-based solutions using enterprise documents, data sources, and APIs.
• Implement fallback mechanisms, response grounding, and safeguards for AI-generated outputs.
• Establish AI evaluation frameworks using test datasets, quality metrics, and production monitoring.
• Improve AI application reliability through continuous testing and evaluation.

6. Engineering Excellence

• Follow clean coding standards, Git-based version control, and Agile/Scrum practices.
• Support testing, debugging, code reviews, and CI/CD-oriented delivery.
• Collaborate with architects, developers, functional consultants, and business stakeholders.
• Take applications from rapid prototyping through production deployment and ongoing improvement.
