ABB is seeking a senior SAP ABAP expert to own development standards across ECC and S/4HANA, including AI-assisted coding practices. You will lead a small team delivering production ABAP weekly and evaluate agentic AI platforms for SAP, integrating the best choice into daily workflows.

You will report to IT leadership and operate in a hybrid model, with strong emphasis on quality, security, and fast delivery across Finance, Logistics, Operations, and Sales.

This Position reports to:

IS Manager

Your Role And Responsibilities

In this role, you will have the opportunity to own how SAP ABAP is built across our ERP landscape: the development standard, the quality gates, the AI-assisted development practice, and who works on what. Each day, you will spend at least half your time writing production code in SAP ECC and S/4HANA, taking on the hardest objects and the first build of every new pattern. You will also showcase your expertise by leading a central team of three developers, growing to six, who serve projects across Finance, Logistics, Operations and Sales. You will help us choose between agentic AI development platforms for SAP, such as Nova Intelligence and Conduct, and then make the chosen platform part of how the team builds every day.

This role will be Reporting to the VP of IT and the Head of Core Business Applications (ERP), you will be the team's hands-on technical lead, not an additional management layer.

The work model for the role is: Hybrid, minimum 3 days per week in the office.

This role contributes to the Information Systems Core Business Applications (ERP) team, Electrification business area Installation Products division, in India. Main stakeholders are business users and project leads in Finance, Logistics, Operations, and Sales; the SAP BTP architecture and development team; the integration team; and SAP Basis.

You will be mainly accountable for:

• Building and finishing: delivering production ABAP in ECC and S/4HANA every week, and closing team commitments on the promised date, chasing what is blocked rather than waiting.
• Owning the ABAP development standard: coding guidelines, naming, enhancement rules, ABAP Test Cockpit checks, code review and transport discipline, applied the same way across the team.
• Leading AI-driven development: testing agentic AI platforms for SAP, such as Nova Intelligence and Conduct, hands-on with our own code; recommending one; and making it a daily practice, with rules for use, review of generated code, and automated quality and compliance checks.
• Allocating and growing the team: deciding who works on what across competing demand, removing single points of knowledge, coaching developers, and setting practical clean core rules for S/4HANA.

You will join a small, hands-on expert team where everyone builds, and everyone supports. AI is expected here, not merely tolerated. Done means in use by the business, not just transported, and an honest "I don't know yet" is welcome.

Qualifications for the role:

• You have 12+ years of hands-on SAP development experience, with deep, current ABAP experience in ECC, and you still write code and can show recent work.
• You have heavy, hands-on experience with AI-assisted development, ideally with agentic SAP platforms such as Nova Intelligence or Conduct, or with SAP Joule for developers. If not, you have a strong drive to adopt them and can show what you built or automated with AI on your own initiative.
• You have a demonstrated track record of finishing concrete production outcomes with numbers, including work that was stuck before you picked it up.
• You are highly skilled in SAP S/4HANA development, including CDS, RAP, and ABAP Cloud, with a practical view of clean core from real implementations.
• You have established skills in defining and enforcing development standards that others followed, including rules for AI-generated code, and in leading developers technically.
• You are passionate about getting things done through people you don't manage, and about keeping quality and security controls intact while moving fast.
• You are at ease communicating in English, verbally and in writing.
