The HSE Engineer will be based at the project site, supporting and managing Environment, Health & Safety (HSE) activities for the project and directly reporting to the HSE lead. The role involves close collaboration with the construction team, general contractors, and key vendors to ensure the implementation of HSE plans and practices, and compliance with all HSE procedures and processes. This includes control of high-risk activities such as heavy lifting using mobile cranes, excavation, trenching, hot works, electrical installations, working at heights using scaffolding, confined space entry, and material handling.
Responsibilities
- Implement HSE policies, standards, procedures, and construction-specific plans for the specified projects.
- Manage HSE regulatory compliance for projects with in-depth knowledge of BOCW and relevant regulations.
- Develop and deliver HSE training materials and conduct training for staff, contractors, and management.
- Conduct trade-specific and high-risk activity training and coaching as per schedule.
- Manage fit-out work for greenfield projects.
- Plan and lead incident/accident prevention activities and programs to foster a proactive HSE culture.
- Maintain and review HSE performance data, perform data analysis to identify trends of near misses and potential incidents, and focus on areas for improvement.
- Provide HSE leadership and oversight for construction activities, supporting project managers to manage risks and continuously review HSE plans and implementation.
- Organise and conduct weekly and monthly HSE meetings with project HSE teams and track action items.
- Support incident/accident investigations, gather facts, conduct root cause analysis, and recommend preventive and corrective actions.
- Review and uphold site HSE plans, permit-to-work systems for high-risk activities, and job safety analysis for construction. Conduct kickoff meetings with new contractors.
- Conduct site inspections and audits to ensure compliance and implementation of safe behaviours and practices at project sites; maintain observation tracking records.
- Review contractors job safety analysis and construction activities plans, identify weaknesses and gaps, and challenge the feasibility and practicality of controls.
- Develop and drive a strong, proactive HSE culture and safe behaviour.
- Lead, manage, and mentor contractor HSE supervisory teams to enforce safe practices and reduce noncompliance.
Desired Profile
Education Qualification
- B.E. / B.Tech / Diploma in Engineering.
- Advanced / Post Diploma in Industrial Safety from an affiliated institute from a State Technical Board or State Government University only.
- NEBOSH IGC is an advantage.

Work Experience
- Minimum 6 15 years of experience managing HSE activities for construction of large infrastructure projects as EPC/PMC/Client.
- Hands‑on experience managing and reviewing HSE risks and controls for high‑risk construction activities such as excavation, heavy lifting, hot works, working at heights, confined space, electrical, etc.
Technical Skills
- Fair knowledge of ISO14001, ISO45001, and OSHA.
- Strong understanding and knowledge of compliance with BOCW and other statutory requirements.
- Experience implementing EHS standards in engineering and construction projects.
- Strong contractor/supplier management experience and ability to interact and communicate effectively with senior‑level management.
- Self‑motivated with excellent written and verbal communication skills to drive HSE initiatives at construction projects with an innovative safety mindset.
Soft Skills and Others
- Strong communication skills (both written and verbal) and ability to effectively manage and motivate colleagues.
- Very good prioritisation skills to balance key priorities.
- Experience working with physical, virtual, and remote teams.
