Commutatus in Bangalore offers a hybrid, full-time environment where you will research, build, and improve scalable platforms using Ruby on Rails. You’ll contribute to frameworks that power 50+ platforms and impact thousands of users by delivering robust API backends and integrations.
You will collaborate in squads, own API design, and optimize database performance while aligning with a modern DevOps approach and CI/CD practices.
Full-time
Commutatus partners with ambitious entrepreneurs, startups, and corporates in various industries to conceptualise, design, and build digital products. We are the team that companies like AIESEC, Rajasthan Royals, Brevo, Gehna, NADIM, and others hire to get things done.
Over the past years, we've gained substantial experience building platforms the right way. The platforms we build now are both super malleable and easy to scale. Our vision at Commutatus is to bring tomorrow closer to today, and we aspire to do so for multiple clients simultaneously.
What you need to have: We are not big on credentials. A computer science degree or graduation from a prestigious university is not something we spend much time considering. We care about what you can do and how you do it, not how you got there.
We're looking for a Ruby on Rails Engineer to research, build, and improve scalable platforms. You'll work in a collaborative squad, powering frameworks that roll out to 50+ platforms and shape how thousands of users experience our products.
Research and feasibility checks: Assist in ideating features by providing inputs based on research or your experience. You'll frequently advise the team on the feasibility of ideas and provide alternative routes to meet the feature's objective.
Framework Development: Your work will power the backbone of our platform. You'll build frameworks, such as file exports and rate limiting, that roll out to 50+ platforms through gem updates, shaping how thousands of users experience our products.
Framework Implementation: Your work will directly impact clients across industries. In just a week, you could streamline inventory for an e-commerce brand or launch a course manager for an EdTech startup — all through our Platform Gem and GraphQL APIs.
Continuous improvement: Play an active role in team retrospective events by flagging problems and frustrations in the team and offering solutions.
You have exceptional communication skills.
You can identify problems around you and independently propose solutions to these problems. We love independent problem-solvers and encourage all our employees to suggest changes to streamline our processes.
You are organised and structured. Your PRs are well-structured, have excellent descriptions, and your JIRA tickets are always in the right status. You demonstrate a strong understanding of Ruby on Rails, APIs, and database design.
You've built scalable digital platforms before that have been deployed to production environments.
You know how GraphQL and REST APIs work, i.e., how to build, maintain, and improve them.
You have designed databases and optimised their performance.
You understand the various components of a backend system, including app servers, databases, and caches.
You have a sound understanding of deploying apps to staging or production via automated tools such as GitHub Actions.
We give you the freedom to learn and grow in the company.
We provide a learning path, feedback, and resources to take you to the next step in your technical career. We even sponsor certifications and tickets to select tech events!
A safe space to explore your varied interests and a platform to understand different domains.
An invested interest in your well-being. All our employees benefit from generous health insurance.
The space for you to have a healthy work-life balance.
Do you love freedom and flexibility in your work?
Do you ensure quality on everything you ship out so you are proud to have your stamp on it?
